Question about illidan.

I have a question about Illidan.
I have been playing WoW since BC, but I haven't really been following much of the lore until recently. I have always been one of those players who just grabs the quests and blindly completes them without ever really reading any of the lore details.
Now that I actually know a thing or two, I was wondering what you guys think of Illidan. After reading about his background and the Well of Eternity and Sargeras, it got me thinking - is Illidan the most important character in the World of Warcraft? If it weren't for his need for power (and his jealousy towards his brother), he wouldn't have tried to keep the Well of Eternity safe from his brother. So, the Well would have been destroyed and Sargeras wouldn't have been able to attempt to go through the Well into Azeroth. Thus, the Sundering would have never taken place, splitting Azeroth into the continents and basically separating the races and forming the factions we know today as Horde and Alliance. If Illidan hadn't betrayed his brother for his own greed, the war would have been over faster and people like Deathwing would have probably never been created, leading into the Cataclysm expansions and so on.
Is this accurate? Keep in mind, I am still quite uninformed when it comes to the lore, but I have been trying to catch up on it as of late, as it has caught my eye recently with MoP's release.
In my opinion, Illidan really is the most important character. He has basically caused everything we now know as the World of Warcraft.
Thoughts?

He's not: Illidan is the massive Emo-King of the Warcraft universe, the man who was so power mad and such a glory hog that he actually ended up putting himself in Jail for 10 thousand years in the dark.
In regards to the Well: The Highborne were the ones mucking around with the Well, and they were the ones who summoned the demons and Sargaras. If Mal and Emo-boy hadn't of slammed shut the portal, Sargaras would have have walked on Azeroth and destroyed it utterly. The Sundering happened because no one was prepared for the backlash that occurred when the portal slammed shut, with all of that extra crap going on.
In regards to Deathwing: The Three Old Gods were already affecting his mind, and the Demon Soul was created a few weeks before the final battle happened. Illidan had nothing all to do with Deathwing's corruption.
In regards to the War: Without Illidan betraying the Allied army back then, the Demons would have overwhelmed the Night Elves. Because of his stupid power mad move, he actually bought them time and let the Allies get the Earthen, the Tauren, the Furbolgs, the Quillboars and the Ancients on their side and able to fight.
In all honesty, the one who caused everything was his Brother Malfurion; he stole the Demon Soul from Deathwing, he was one of those who banished the Highborne who would become the High Elves as well as imprisoning his brother. He stopped Illidan from doing something stupid in the Third War which would have destroyed Northrend, killing everyone on the continent at that point.
The Emo-King is the biggest joke in the Warcraft universe, especially come BC, when he believed that he won that dual against Arthas, and had created the Illidari for some 'conqueror' Outland plan, when in reality it was to protect himself from Kil'Jaeden if the second in command of the Legion showed up to finally kill him, like he promised in the Frozen Throne.
Edit: Also, while you are new, it pays to learn how to use the Search function; we've had dozen of threads about Illidan that touch on all of these topics and questions; what I put is the standard points in the 'best' arrayed function of the answer, which is tainted by my own intense hatred of Illidan.

Stop being mean to the new guy Adams! >:0
But yeah, while it's certain that Illidan influenced a lot of events in Azeroth's history, I don't know if that qualifies him as most important. There are a lot of other factors that I would consider important as well.

Adams is an Illidan hater. But besides that, he summed up most of the stuff.
From an OOC perspective, I consider Illidan important because he is honestly one of the most beleivable and relatable villains I've ever encountered in a game.
Jealousy of his brother for ourshining him at every turn, and even stealing the girl her loved, led him to become power mad, vengful, and arguably insane, stupid, and delusional.
He created the demon hunters, contributed quite a bit to saving Azeroth a few times, and made himself quite the thorn in both Arthas' and Kil'Jaeden's side. Intentional or not, without Illidan around the world would have probably been in a lot more trouble without him.
So yeah. Nice job fixing it villain.

made himself quite the thorn in both Arthas' and Kil'Jaeden's sideA thorn? Kael did more to Arthas then Illidan did, and Illidan was scared pissless of KJ; if anything, the second in command to the Legion probably just saw the blind Night Elf as a pathetic tool he was forced to use(well he did lol, makes that clear when he delivers that threat to him during the Frozen Throne).

, how did Malfurion "steal" his girl? They weren't "going steady" or anything when her and Malfurion fell in love. It's not like Illidan had some right or prerogative just because he fell for her. She loved Malfurion, and he loved her, and Illidan's feelings don't really factor into the equation. Certainly, that's probably how Illidan felt about it, but it just goes to show what a sense of entitlement he had. The whole thing just really reminds me of
this
Chainsawsuit about "nice guys" and the "friend zone." Just more evidence that
Adams
is right and Illidan was a whiny little &*!@#.

Why everyone forget the Frozen Throne campgain, Illidan would have destroyed the Icecrown itself if Malfurion didn't interfare?

Yeah...and killed all of those allies we find when we travel there, as well as a hero of the Dwarf nation. Also, who knows what would have happened to the world itself to suddenly have one of the continents destroyed.
