The game doesn't have any direct input on what your fans are doing. What might have happened is that they made adjustments to graphics that increased the load your graphic card (I sincerely hope you at least have a separate graphics card and not an integrated one) which increases the amount of power it uses which in turn increases the temperature of the card which means your fans are going to run faster in response.
Try the official Technical Support forums.

Is this happening in a major city or everywhere? If it's a major city, I'd think it might be because a lot of players are in testing the new patch (I don't know, I haven't finished downloading the patch yet lol)

I can attest to the fact that my laptop heats up now with WoW the same way it does with Skyrim, and it never did before. I have it on a fan platform, so it's ok, but I have absolutely seen the difference.

It's been happening everywhere, even standing still in starting areas:P . I mean I know it's a laptop but fans at 5-6k at all low, 30fps settings seems excessive. Heck it's even been dropping below 30 sometimes when turning, that shouldn't be happening at all in those situations integrated graphics or not.
Integrated graphics in itself is not necessarily a problem, no, the performance is what matters.
The point being, however, that most integrated graphics have
awful
performance. They're simply not made for games. FPS dropping below 30 when turning doesn't sound surprising to me at all assuming it's a scene that has taxing graphical elements.
If you still insist WoW is making your laptop run hotter than it should, I again advise you to try the official Technical Support forum appropriate to your region. Post your full system specs in as much detail you know (actually they'll probably want a dxdiag) and your full WoW graphics settings there and you should be able to get more definitive answers.

I'm not familiar with the AMD integrated graphics but as a rule of thumb they're still not made for games insofar as they lack support for some newer graphics technology widely used in games which can lead to some very odd graphics issues. I'm aware that modern integrated graphics are catching up a bit on numbers though and I concede that WoW doesn't use a whole lot of new technology which means the more recent ones should be perfectly fine.
That said, it does sound like the OP is playing on something old enough to have performance issues, especially since an expansion patch like the recent one is the most likely time to fiddle with graphics, hence the advice to look up the official tech support forums for some more definitive answers.

There has definatly been a change in the lighting . Things are much brighter now ( for instance when i did Zon last night the dark phase wasnt very dark , could hardly tell the difference between dark and light phases) .
play with the contrast on your minitor , that may help

My fans turn in high gear on my laptop and Mac mini, even per-patch. I'm just hardcore.

I have a NEW computer that gets overheated after just seconds of playing. But waiting for that "fix" patch to happen, feels pretty #$%^ed up.

The fan speed increases as the temperature of the chip that it is cooling increases. The new patch may have bumped up the graphical detail to a point where it is more demanding on your GPU than the graphics of the previous patch. It also defaults to using the 64-bit client if you are using a 64-bit OS.
I don't use a mac but these are things you can do to reduce the burden on your GPU and in turn reduce the fan speed:
1) Lower the water detail setting.
2) Reduce ground clutter, "view distance" and shadow detail.
--- These above two points should provide the biggest "gain" in terms of freeing up GPU resources. The points below are additional tweaks to try if the first two don't help ---
3) For Open GL (I believe macs use OGL) enable triple buffering.
4) Disable vsync unless doing so causes visual "glitches". Most people can safely disable it.
5) Enable DX11 as the API (windows users).
6) The 32 bit client still seems to be more stable than that 64 bit, however some people report improved performance with the 64 bit client.
