Because that's a digital version and not a physical one?
Also: Entirely possible they decided to drop the prices of things since it's a bad year for everyone; but if it's truly sticking a bee up yer bum, go post on the official forums and see if someone will tell you the reasons.

You guys are being pretty harsh on this guy. He's just asking
why
it's cheaper. No where do I see a QQ.
OT: With declining subs, they probably figure a lower price on the expansion will attract more people. The more people they get on a monthly payment, the more money they get even at the reduced one-time cost of the expansion.

Btw, I cannot find a reference anywhere to Cataclysm's Collectors Edition costing more than
$79.99
. Perhaps some retailer just took advantage of you.
In fact, I'm fairly sure the cost for each regular version and collector's edition has been identical for each expansion. The exception is MoP with the mid-level Digital Deluxe (but that hadn't existed previously).(##RESPBREAK##)8##DELIM##sas148##DELIM##

The OP might not be from the US --remember that there is more places in the world.
The CD for cata here in Australia was well over $130 -- D3 normal was $99 ( which made the annual pass even more a bargin for us ).
In Australia EB games is now advertising teh CD of MoP for $99 --now the exchange rate is around $us 1.04 for every $au so as usual we are getting ripped off downunder
Edit :--buying the delux downloaded edition straight from Bliz myself

You may be right. I think I had just become accustom to always associating the $ sign with U.S Currency. I had forgotten that other countries use the symbol as well.

That price doesn't sound right to me, but I bought my Cata CE on Amazon.ca for 80 something.

Probably local store greed. Also, country differences. I paid the equivalent of ~$86 in Germany.

To further highlight price differences around the world I recently bought six warcraft novels and it was cheaper for me to buy them from the Bliz store including postage then to buy them from stores in Australia .
THe amazing thing was that they arrived at my door 5 DAYS after I ordered them , where as teh Aussie stores were quoting 2 weeks delevery
