Lil' Ragnaros has a multiple-round ground AoE as well, but the damage shown in your videos doesn't appear to be that large - admittedly, I only skipped through them.

I am only going to be PVEing the PBS. From everything I´ve seen, it is going to be worse than 3s arenas as far as comps. I am just going to contently level the 10 pets (one each race) I like most using the world spawns and not worry about min-maxing except for the racial things (beasts kill critters etc).
For pvp PBS, there is going to be the ´best´ team..... and then there is going to be the hard counter to that team and that is all you will basically see at high levels for a long time after launch. There are too many theorycrafters and the devs will not be quick at all about balancing PBS

That's saying something lol. But then again, idc about Pet Battle balance myself. It's like trying to say Pokemon is balanced.
(HINT: It's not - check Smogon)

I never played or participated in anything Pokemon. Is this system really all that similar that it warrants the constant comparison? Just curious...

No more then any other Mon game is similar.

In all honesty that looks awful and boring.

:O
But yeah, like Adamsm said, it is very similar to the other games. There are creatures you collect and some are weak to different types of abilities.
And like Interest said, some Pokemon are insanely powerful. And it isn't just the legendary ones either, given the right moves some of the other ones can get quite strong.

Well what I'm trying to imply is that it's doubtful they'll take Pet Battle balance too seriously.

that was my point also. I do think they attempt to balance 3v3 arena teams, but it is very difficult because the same specs have to be viable for pve raiding and larger group pvp. But think about it, 3v3 arena rewards the best gear, has visible ladders and is highly competitive.
Pet battles offer no rewards, your winning percentage isn´t shown, and you don´t even know who you are playing against if you do decide to pvp your battle pets. I think a certain pet will have to be spammed across multiple website as an ´iwin´ button before the devs micromanage the balancing for it.

The system is exactly the same. When I say exactly, I mean EXACTLY. From the stablemasters, to the crating, to the capturing, wild pets, pet masters etc etc etc.
The pets and abilities they have are different, but even some of the abilities seem to come from it.
