(And yes I know once upon a time Worgen were tamable)
Really? I don't remember this. And I've played a hunter on and off since mid-vanilla.
When was this?
In Wrath; one of the quest mobs in the Fjord was tamable..but it was the old style worgen skin.
That being said: Dragons are not beasts, they are intelligent creatures, friends of the Factions and would probably be very pissed if they saw someone running around with their kid as a pet.

Granted, they don't care about being shoved in your backpack and ridden around like a horse when you need them.
But, seriously, making them pets is way too far. Maybe if they even introduce a dragonsworn class, I can imagine them calling down a drake to help them out for a bit.

Eh, except for Warlock and Pally mounts, I've always gone with the interpretation that our mounts are just 'hiding' till we need them, and they come running up to us when we call them, or drop down out of the sky for the flyers.

Probably. I've always looked at drake mounts as "gameplay and story segregation" myself. Mostly because I imagine a dragon would need a pretty good reason to hang around and just let you ride around on them.

Well think of the drakes in game: Bronze is helping you after saving him in CoT, Red serves you due to gaining exalted with the Wyrmrest(Come on, Queen of Life tells you to go with the adventure, you are going to listen), Black and Twilight you overpower and make them yours heh, Blues and Azure just show that not all of the Blue Flight were bad and they want to help make up for what Maly did, Netherdrake you gain the alliance of like the Reds.
The Cata drakes are extensions of the Deepholme stuff, and are tied to Therazane; same deal there.
Proto's, while 'smart', aren't as intelligent as their descendents, so to me it's more of the overpower/prove yourself to them to make them yours(come on, other then Blue and Green, look at the sheer number of stuff you had to do to acquire them).
As for the Frostwyrms....well, I've got nothing in regards to them.

Now you're making me feel bad for using them for mining.
@ OP: I think you'll have to be content with chimaeras for now. They'll be taming druids in animal form before we...
Oh wait...

Very true they are not beasts, but the fact that you can tame a Chimera and not a Dragon is a bit dumb considering their similar.
So, since we can tame Gorillas and Monkeys, we should be able to tame Humans, too? (Yes, Humans didn't evolve from primates in the Warcraft universe, but you get the point)

Similar in what way exactly? Dragons are large reptilian creatures, while Chimeras are King Ghedorah mammals.

On a serious note, I think Hydra, Wyverns, Hippogriffs, Griffons, Mammoths, Stags, etc. would all make nice tamable pets. Tamable critters could be funny too- have the swell up so you have giant attack frogs, squirrels, turkeys, etc.

I think they added tamable Hydras, didn't they?

This

. is the only untameable beast I have ever grumbled to myself about. As far as I know it is not a dragon nor is it related to dragons is classified as a beast and therefore should be tameable. Maybe someday.

I've always wanted a Kodo or thunder lizard as pets, rhinos are the closest I get to tho :(
