I fly around Northrend. I cross over new territory, that I have never been to, and I gain experience points. I get a message from WoW, "Discovered Coldarra: gained 250 xp". The achievement "Explore Borean Tundra" lists many of these. But it is
not
complete. Even now, a year later, I just got another one.
What are they called?
How do I search WoWHead for a
complete
list of these?
I was told that I could find all inns by searching for:
http://www.wowhead.com/?search=innkeeper
where do I get a list of searchable terms?
In the query below, what do I relpace "xyzzy" with to get back a list from wowhead containing "Maw of Neltharion"
http://www.wowhead.com/?search=xyzzy
Maw of Neltharion
appears above my minimap in the title box.
What is that box above the minimap called?
What is the name of the items in it?
Sometimes it displays zone names.
Sometimes it displays city names.
Sometimes it displays things like "Maw of Neltharion" and I do not know what that is called.

They are called subzones. They are areas within a zone that either uncover portions of the map or are otherwise important (contain quest-giving npcs, etc). Those that uncover the map are included in the "Explore..." zone achievements, while others are merely "discovery" points that reward xp and nothing else. There is not, unfortunately, a way to search for a complete list of the subzones.
This search
gives back all the innkeepers (used a filter rather than searching by keyword).
There is no list of searchable terms, but make use of the filters as well as the keywords to hone in on what you're looking for. Try to use different combinations and think about all aspects of the item / npc you're trying to find (ie. if they start or end a quest, what zone they're located in, etc).
Maw of Neltharion is a subzone, and will not show up in database searches.
That box shows the subzone you're in. Sometimes, the subzone is the same as the zone itself, but other times it is not, so that would account for the "odd" names you're seeing.(##RESPBREAK##)136##DELIM##hatman555##DELIM##

Seems like all 3 of your topics are based on a similar line of thought. So I hope you and SquireKel don't mind me putting all 3 topics together.
You are trying to find a list, or information on all the sub-zones in the game. SquireKel gave you complete answers. I'm going to try and look a bit deeper in to some of the sections of Wowhead to see if I can find anything else.
Can you tell us your goal? What are you trying to do that relates to subzones?
Cheers,
Hat

if all you're interested in doing is getting the exploration achievements, then each of them generally has a comment describing location points for uncovering the required sub-zone (for example,
Explore Borean Tundra
). however, these achievements do not actually cover all possible sub-zones that reward xp, and unfortunately i don't think there is a good way of acquiring such a list.

I have the Explorer achievement. But I was still finding subzones, which surprised me. I would like to complete all subzones even though it is not an achievement.
I realize it is not possible to categorize everything. Thanks for looking deeper.
Thanks to both, Hat and Squire for your kind responses and your kindness to this forum newb. One post is better. All three answers are great.

The "Explorer" achievements are more accurately achievements for uncovering the full map. Each "part" of the map may include several subzones that unlock its display, and even small ones that don't unlock it all (you may notice sometimes that you are quite a bit into an "uncharted" area, e.g. outskirts of a town or temple, and have to go deeper inside to reveal it) but all of them grant a bit of experience when you "discover" them.
To search for subzones, or see a list of subzones of a given zone, you should check out
Wowpedia
, e.g.
here are the subzones of Borean Tundra
. Note that these lists are created mostly manually, and may not be up-to-date for very new zones (Pandaria) or may not be updated for the Cataclysm changes.

@Sitan: The addon: OverAchiever will track your exploration achievements - it even displays a list of unexplored areas when you zone-in to a, well, zone, that you haven't completed. It'll display this in your objectives list (sidebar). That's what I always use.
i think the issue with overachiever will be the same in that it won't include any sub-zones that are not part of the zone achievement. at this point, it seems like the only lists of sub-zones aiming for total completeness are user generated which means they are far from perfect. anyone want to start a brand new character and begin cataloging sub-zones? :)

You don't need a new character, you still notice that the subzone changes when you enter it.
Though, I think the subzones can be datamined, see
zones@Sigrie
- seems to be far from complete, though, not that Sigrie is still updated anymore, as MMO-C now uses
WOWDB
, and I can't find something similar on there.

I'll see if we can possibly add subzones for a MoP feature, that would be neat.
