So first off Imma start by saying I hope this issue can actually be discussed without the thread being closed. I remember once I made a comment about people selling their accounts and a mod removed it because it was against Blizzards policy.
Then again there have been something like a dozen or so threads and polls about smoking pot and other things like that, so Im hoping that US federal law trumps Blizzards policys. If Im wrong then sorry in advance.
Anyway down to the point. A while ago a buddy of mine in game sent me an email saying that he had been using a pirated version of the bot, moderated and offered to show me the link so I could use it as well.
And I have to admit, its pretty tempting. I mean I feel like it would cheapen the experience of the game and of course I dont wanna get banned. He told me that all the really pro players use some kind of a bot or another anyway. And I kind of believe that, I mean on the really high pop servers you meet these guys with like 10 gold capped characters, theyve got to be either botting or buying/selling gold. Not to mention I already feel like I waste waaay to many hours of my life farming mounts and gold and such.
So my question is, what do you think about the (idk the word, morality maybe?) of botting? I mean does anybody know any guildies or anything that do it? It seems like such a big taboo whenever anybody mentions the subject, its always like "oh !@#$ing botters, cheating A-holes" etc etc.
Anybody have experience with anybody who does it? Would you do it yourself if given the chance? Same question about other stuff, know anybody who buys/sells gold, would you do that youself if given the chance?(##RESPBREAK##)136##DELIM##hatman555##DELIM##Removed the name of a specific botting program.

I wouldn't do it. Most people in BGS that do it are reported. I personally like the feel of earning something myself, rather than dependant on a bot. So idc for it TBH.

I would never do it. I only know one person who's severely broken the rules. Don't do it if you value your account =P.

Going to leave this topic open over night, and tomorrow, see how it goes. I think we should be able to have a general converstation about botting on these forums, as it is something that does exist in the game, and is well known about.
Things that we should not have in this post:
Specific names of botting programs
Directions to sites on botting
Instructions on how to bot
Discussion of conversation taken in game with GM's if someone was caught botting.
Finally I would like to remind everyone that botting, and 3rd party programs are against WoW's ToS and EULA, and if you are caught using them it is normally a permanent account suspension.
I've played the game for a long time. I've played it at a lower level, and at a higher level of progression. I have met players at all levels who have used bots. They have all been caught eventually. One player in out guild was even banned mid raid, while not botting, simply because he had been flagged in the past, and then in a batch operation they banned him and 1000's of other botters.
Cheers,
Hat

My brother used to, years ago. Eventually caught up to him and he was banned. Not worth it if you have other characters that have spent hours/days etc on, I think anyways.

I'm very conflicted about this thread.
Wowhead rules about discussing this stuff are, of course, in large part in place because we don't support private servers, botting or gold-selling but it goes beyond this site taking a stance against those activities. We are also an official Blizzard fansite. That means we have a relationship with them and agree that our site should be a place that is untouched by that shadier side of things entirely. The important thing is that such activities are in no way
promoted
on our site which gets into a very grey area of whether discussing a topic is, unavoidably, promoting it.
The only thing making me hesitate at all is that the discussion going on here is mature, respectful and interesting and we
never
want to shut down that kind of interaction.
However, I hope the participants will accept my sincere apologies but I feel that I really do need to lock this topic.
