Anybody Know About Shin Inuries?

So i was hiking a week or so ago and I fell and bashed my shin on a rather sharp rock. It left what I can only describe as a dent in my leg, later that night it swelled to roughly the size of a kiwi. After icing it the swelling went down the next morning, but I still had a pretty bad gash on my leg.
At first the area was completley numb, but the past few days the feeling has come back into the area of the injury itself, however the area below it, roughly four inches is completley numb. My fiance (who knows nothing) said I might have severed a nerv ending, and this freaked me out. Probably a weird place to ask, but does anybody know if this kind of thing is normal with this sort of injury?

Is there a doctor you could ask? They might know more than people on Wowhead.

Really, with an injury like that, I don't see why you WOULDN'T go see a doctor.

I didnt think it was bad enough to warrent a doctor visit tbh, I put alchohal on it when I got home and been keeping an eye out for blood poisoning. And it hasnt hindered me at all from walking. The only thing Ive been worrying about is the fact that its still numb, I guess Ill go see a doc, get it checked out.

Aye, if it's still numb, it can herald nerve damage, which is something you want fixed
immediately

go to doctor as soon as you can.
anything related to numbness is a clear sign of a red flag, and should seek immediate attention.

My dad's a doctor and he always told me, if something's wrong with your body, get it checked. Better be safe than sorry.

Your dad wants my money!
No seriously, I have to agree.

It's very unlikely, but it may just be that one infection that kills you.

It is something worth checking out, but probably not life threatening at this point. If the swelling and redness has gone down, there's no odd colors or smells around the injury and the area doesn't hurt, it's not likely to be infected.
It is possible that you injured a nerve in the area. My ex-bf cut his thumb with an exacto knife while we were dating and the side where he cut it was numb for over a year, though the feeling did start to come back eventually. If you did injure the nerve, and there's not swelling in the area causing more damage, there's a limit to what medicine can do to restore feeling. If it's just a surface nerve, there's not a lot of danger, other than you will need to be hyper aware of any injuries/bumps to the area because you won't be as aware of the extent of further injury.

But since it's still bothering you after a week, I second the suggestion to get it seen by a medical professional. There's just no way to convey how an injury looks via text.

Can you elaborate on the size of the lump?
Quite a difference between
Kiwi (fruit)
and
Kiwi (bird).
