Is it really possible to level JC with 0 gold spent (or thereabouts!)?

What the title says :) I'm leveling JC on a lowbie Paladin, fresh server. I don't have a great deal of gold, so I don't know if it's going to drive me crazy. For example, the guide I'm using says I need 60 shadowgem - I have mined 100 copper ore so far, 1 Shadowgem. There aren't many on my server, so if I wasn't to buy any that would take 5900 more copper ore on average :O What the heck.
Is it going to be like this the whole time? I really don't want *another* character at 85 with crappy professions, but it looks like it's headed this way.
On my Druid for example I have Alch/Herb - he's level 70, can herb Cata herbs and is nearly 400 with Alch. Fly > get herbs > Make stuff. Why can't JC be like that lol!

No, it's impossible.
You at least need enough money to train recipes :p
When I leveled mine a few months ago, I spent maybe 500 or 600 gold total, with a lot of that going to training. But then I had stockpiled a lot of ore on an alt.
Also, that guide you're reading, it's not set in stone. I used the guide on WoW-Professions or something, and there were plenty of times I deviated from their list based on what materials I had or what I was able to find on the AH for cheap. So look at the guide, then look at your crafting book, then figure out what's best for
you
.
If you want more Shadowgems, you should be prospecting Tin Ore, it has a
higher drop rate
.
Fly > get herbs > Make stuff. Why can't JC be like that lol!
It is, just with an added step.
Fly > get ore > Prospect > make stuff.

Second best piece of advice (don't blindly follow a profession guide) marrying with the first best (find a profession leveling guide). :)

Thanks guys!
So essentially, it's going to be as easy as Alchemy to level but will just take a little more time?
Addendum - just bought 200 Tin Ore as it was pretty cheap. Got 8 Shadowgem. Christ on a stick this is going to tale forever :D

What's your JC level?
Coarse Stone Statue
or
Bronze Setting
will take you from 50 (when you start using Shadowgems) to 70 (goes yellow, so can go further).
Solid Bronze Ring
will take you to 80 (yellow).
From 80:
Brilliant Necklace
if you have Moss Agate (yellow at 105).
Bronze Torc
if you have Lesser Moonstone (yellow at 110).
Ring of Silver Might
if you have Silver (yellow at 110).
No Shadowgems used.
Here
's a list of all your options for the Shadowgem range.
If you think this range is bad, wait till later. I hit a dead spot in the late 300s I think, where the only options I could find were grind green skillups or farm/buy Primals.
So essentially, it's going to be as easy as Alchemy to level but will just take a little more time?
My Alchemist is only in the 300 range (just hit Outlands, so can't train higher), but I found it to be easier to level than JC. For the simple reason of Prospecting is random (to a point); so if I needed Briarthorn for a recipe I knew where to look, whereas if I needed Shadowgems (for example :p) I had to prospect and hope.
But JC is still fairly easy to level, you just have to look through your book and find what's the best option for that skillup given your material limitations.

I'm at needing Mithril now, not too bad. TBH it doesn't seem horribly hard, as I expected, but I imagine it's like other professions - some ranges are just absolute #$%^&es. Like when you need Goldthorn with Alchemy, it's just not a fun part of that profession :P

he's level 70, can herb Cata herbs
how in the world is this possible? considering you need lvl 75 to get cata herbing. i mean maybe one type of herb (the first one) because 450 with tauren for the small boost. but you cant do that much cata herbing. like i said only maybe 1 type + you will get one shot from any cata mob near the herbs.
On a side note, yes you can spend 0 gold aside from training, you just have to do a crap ton of farming of ores.
and what you do mean by a crappy profession? unless you are talking about engineering any profession can easily make money, if that is what you are going towards. JC can also make money, completely depends however on what your realm economy is like.

Made it to 301 today. TBH, it's actually not been that bad. We're talking one lap for Mithril, two for Thorium an both times I had more than I needed.
I'll be farming Outland now yay! Looks like the Adamantite might be a bit of a slog though.

Now that your at 301. Check the price for Black Diamonds. It could save you some gold. For the first skill ups to 320 or so.

It's not going amazingly well tbh :D Outland leveling is horrible, since Fel Iron is pretty heavily farmed at all hours. 150% mount + full run getting me 60 or so ore = loooonngggggg :P
