There are more and more hate comments just because wow attracts more and more persons. Wow won't die with MoP. They will just add new content, change characters models, new class, new race, change talents and gg they have a whole new game people want at least to give a try, they'll become addicted and there it will start again...
Can't wait to see all the QQ, "plz let me get into the beta MoP" "WoW suxx because I can't get into beta"

Judging by the changes being brought in on the next expansion, i would say wow will start dying big time then.
ya know....... they said the same thing about TBC.....
and WOTLK......
and cataclysm.....
and here's the kicker: WOW STILL LIVES.
not only lives, its the behemoth of MMO's, without a single serious rival that can put up some competition, and by rival I mean an MMO that has at least 60% the amount of subscribers wow has. You'd be lucky to find an MMO with 10% the same amount of subs wow has.
Hate to break it to you, but there is SIGNIFICANTLY more hate revolving around MoP than probably the last 3 expansions combined. While it may not seem like it on these fan sites, the majority of WoW players think its a stupid idea. I personally know a large number of people who quit immediately after the expansion was announced because they didn't like where the game was going at all. I don't know anyone that responded that way because of BC, WotLK, or Cata.
That, and the fact that we are hitting the time where a large number of people who have played since vanilla are quitting because they are simply bored of the game now (and the fact that the next expansion revolves around kung fu pandas acts as a good catalyst for quitting now)

Do you know what the buyers and sellers on Wall Street do, if the market drops 10% in one day?
I'm sure they don't post on forums about Wall Street dying, or do they?
Don't know your history, do you? Hang in there. 7th grade is not that hard.

Whats a large number of people to you? Have you made a poll that shows all these people that hate MoP more then that last 3 expacs? I know a "large" number of people that like the new expac.

Yet another person who has no idea what they're talking about. Might want to do a little research on the Pandarens first before posting about them.

Oh so when the stock market crashed everyone booted up their computer and went to the nearest Wall Street fan site and posted about how it died?
You learn something new every day.

What about, when World of Warcraft is truely not profitable for Blizzard or Activision (Blizzvision / Actiblizz ) anymore, to make it opensource (or partial opensource if that is possible) ?
I mean as a very last resort ofc. (around the year 2025 or so).
Maybe some devs or pensioned software devs could maintain it.
Or persons not related to Blizzard company, whatever works ofc.
like Linus Torvalds with Linux... Greg Street (or someone else) with World of Warcraft. :D
just a thought.. maybe outrageous but still just an idea and I haven't thought of the implications if this would ever happen btw.

Don't know your video game history well do you? Everquest is still going.

I really doubt Blizzard will ever give up the intellectual right to the Warcraft universe.

And in this current age, I didn't know they actually complain about it and not do anything. You would think they might actually sell those stocks and buy something else that is on the rise. Oh well, it would match with a lot of the current people playing WoW. Lots of complaining yet they still do nothing other then that.
Shouldn't you be doing your homework? Learn about Wall Street, then, and now?

OH, I do. Been playing computer games 30 years, kid. Can you still play D1 on their servers? Were you born when that game came out?
L2Read. I didn't say it would die. Lonewarrior, I and some others are pointing to the trend. It took a couple of years to creep up to that last mark of 12 million. It took less than a year, to lose that. It is on the way down.

Posting in a thread about the game dying, saying that due to loss of subs it's starting on a downward trend....meh. Same old same old, who really cares; game is going to go on for as long as the servers stay up, and just from Everquest and Runescape, we can figure out that it will stay up for as long as people want to play it. As for the subs; sure it's lost a mil....but that's still another 11 million still here, still playing, still going on and on.

I know about Wall Street, I know how it was and how it is. I also know they do more then just sit on their computer complaining about how stocks are going down. If it is going down, they either sell their shares or hold out hoping for it to bounce back. That is what Blizz is doing, they seem they're losing subs so they do this annual pass to lock in those that are currently playing. I know a few that were going to quit wow and play SWTOR, Skyrim or just wait until 4.3 to come back. Now they're going to keep paying for the next year and get all those goodies. They're not saying "Oh no we're losing all of the players, we better close the servers down now".
Shouldn't you try and make a point rather then continue to say I don't have a clue to what I'm talking about? The only thing I seen you do is try and belittle someone else and not post anything constructive to the thread.
Another thing, all things die. But WoW won't be dying anytime soon.

no, you just can not pull the plug and just let it die, that is just so .. mean.
of course, in the end employees need to be paid and business is business, but I can not imagine that Blizzard doesn't make millions with the subscription money alone.
I don't pretend to know anything about financial stuff which Blizzards has to deal with, really, I don't.
How much money does a company like Blizzard need to make to consider itself successful or to keep the certain game titles up to date ?
I just don't get it that people saying that wow is dying, i just can't understand and I won't. Wow is my favourite game by far.
at least 10 million people are playing it ! Games with far less subscribers are considered successful.
Tell me then when its not successful, with 5 million players ? 3 million ? 600.000 players ?
When ?
Sorry I just don't get it.

This ignores an important difference between WoW and those other MMOs: its success, and Blizzard's desire to recreate that success with a 'next' game.
Once subs hit the cliff and start dropping off precipitously Blizzard will pull the plug within 6 months, which will be within 18 months of the launch of the 'next' game.
I really doubt that.

What I define as "large" is irrelevant, as is the fact that you know a "large" number of people who like the expansion. The fact is, there are much stronger opinions - both ways - than there have been right after the announcement of previous expansions (which I am judging simply by reactions I've read and by the other players I know), and that is not a good thing. Those strong opinions are what get a lot of people to quit.
Also, I don't need to know anything about Pandarens to know that most players haven't done "a little research on the Pandarens" and that "Kung Fu Panda" is the first thing casual players (and some hardcore players) think about when they see the new expansion. Heck, even though I personally *have* done research on Pandarens after the expansions announcement, I still think it's silly. Just because a race has the lore to back up its inclusion in the game doesn't mean that it would be a good idea.

Wow is the only game that has "died" 365 days a year for 7 years. The game prolly won't die until people fully stop playing. As long as it's out people will continue to play. New people will cone in. Unless blizz stops the game totally it wont die

I understand there are many detractors to where this game is heading including the upcoming MoP expansion.
I have been a "flamer" of some of the things Blizz has done to this game, but not so much so that I won't even give them chance and try MoP.
But neither is it fair to say people have been whining for 7 years. This game didn't get to where it is today without the dedication of players who stuck around through all the growing pains that made the game better. The game that many of the newer players take for granted today.
The voices of players who first made this game a sustainable enterprise do have a right to be heard.
PS. I have always wondered if we took the Wrath and up players and transported them back to Vanillas days, would they have had the same fortitude to carry this game or quit because everything didn't come so easy.

The hell are you talking about?
Linus Torvalds was in no way affiliated with Unix or Bell Labs. He didn't work on the software, he wasn't part of it's development team, etc. He wrote a kernel which mimicked Unix's, while Richard Stallman reverse engineered Unix software.
Random people put the two together and thus Linux as an OS was born. Much to the dismay and crushed ego of Richard Stallman.
If a past or present Blizzard employee tried to give up source code of WoW, they'd be sued into oblivion.
There's no way Blizzard would ever want to give up their source code or trade secrets, even if the game's servers are offline, things that they developed in WoW may still be in use in other games. As was previously mentioned, as well, they'd never give up their intellectual rights to the Warcraft universe.
On topic: WoW will die when Blizzard stops updating it. Plain and simple. As long as new things happen, people will continue to play. As long as enough people play, the game remains profitable and Blizzard keeps it going.
I've been playing since launch. It'll take a lot more than some QQ Crybabies to convince me to walk away from 7 years of character development, farming, gold raising, item collecting, and world knowledge. A new MMO would have to be *DAMN* good to drag me and people with my mentality away from 7 years worth of work. I'm not the only one who feels this way.
Other launch-day players may be tired of it at this point, which is fine. They're using MoP as an excuse to leave. People did the same with BC, the same with Wrath, and the same with Cat.
Personally; I HATE Cat. I still play, because there's things I can do besides raid and dungeons, and it goes back to that 7 years of work bit. Unless I run out of things to do completely, I'm not walking away from my characters.
