More respect? Yes
Preferential treatment? No

I have already regarded that... yes the teachers work 6-8 hours a day, BUT work HALF THE DAYS. So that averages out throughout the year to them working 3-4 hours a day.
Again, where are you getting half the days? They work Monday to Friday, and they don't get paid for any of the school holidays, unless it's a PA/PD day, as they are there at the school working. Out of a year, they get paid for 10 months at the most.

Have also also considered the fact that also during the summer a good number of teachers are teaching summer school, both for kids who are required to take it and for kids who want to get a class or two out of the way during summer.
They are creating there lesson plans for either there regular class or if they are being switched from lets say academic biology to accelerated biology and need to form a lesson plan for that.
Finally they could be coaching students in football, swimming band, etc during the summer as well.
TLDR it is not fair to claim that all dont work for half the year when many of them do other things relating to there job over the summer, that should they not do would have a big impact on how they could do there job when school starts.
I am not including college professors in this.
Also @ Adams at least from what my mother told me you have two options (this might vary from school to school) you can choose to have your pay spread out over the entire year but get a smaller amount per check. Or choose to not get payed during the summer and get a bigger pay check per week. either way you still get get the same amount of money per year. Again i will say this might vary from school district to school district.

We "don't understand" because your argument makes no sense, period.

No, if they are teaching summer school, they are getting paid for that rather then not getting any pay in the summer. As for the coaching sports; if they are a coach then yes, if they are a regular teacher, not so much.

No, they actually don't; they do 40 hours a week same as every other worker.
Edit: That's your school though, which isn't every single school over both countries. And your point doesn't really.

Yes it makes sense, you just can't seem to grasp the fact that they work about half as much as the average 40 an hour worker so their wage should be adjusted accordingly.
By that same argument, military pay should be adjusted accordingly because they tend to work in excess of the 40hr week.

.....Because that is when they work? But again, it's not as large as you think it is.

Most teachers put in 40 hrs or more. We'll say 0800 to 1600 M-F actually on campus, that right there is 40 hours. Plus grading that can't be done during school hours, and lesson plans, and other duties that require extra time like detention or tutoring, or parent meetings, etc.

Teachers only make it hard on themselves. They have it pretty easy compared to what most people are doing out there. As for grading, electronic ftw! Or have the student behind you grade you.
