Just to clarify Squish, I was relating to lesbian intimacy.
And you have a very valid point.
I would have said 'Intercourse would be vaginal insertion in some way', but oral sex for men has quite similar mechanics.
More discussion is required.
(Why am I less comfortable discussing this than the masturbation thread?)

So gay men wouldn't have intercourse by that definition? :P

I'm a virgin, not in the "I'm a WoW player and a geeky dork" kind of way, but in the "I don't date much, and even if I did, I live with my parents and six siblings so how would I even get the opportunity to do it?" kind of way.

The results so far are encouraging. NO UNCHASTE HEATHENS YET!
Aren't you an unchaste heathen, Mr. unmarried-and-not-a-virgin?
Not really. Whether one has had sex or not in the past really isn't an issue if he is choosing to be chaste now. I was referring to the last option, as unchaste heathens.

Yep, I know. Hence my point - penetration for males is somewhat different.

Yeah, that'd be my beef with that definition too.
But then, would you call someone who's had anal sex a 'virgin'?
Generally speaking, when I define 'sex' for things like this, I typically use a 'will it make babies?' test. Therefore, I wouldn't classify oral / anal sex as falling in Hyper's definition for this poll.

Fair enough.

I'll just underline the part where I couldn't come to a conclusion myself.

I like the line of your thinking, however if you follow a kind of oral then kissing then oral series of activities at your chosen location, fluid transfer could still take place.
Then there is also bath water and cabbage patches to be wary of.

So homosexuals and infertile people are virgins? :P
You know what I mean :P (regarding infertile people)
If we want to boil down the etymology of the term, most people posting in this thread wouldn't qualify, because only females have virginity, looking at its original roots.
I'd be somewhat comfortable classing homosexuals as virgins in the sense that they don't have penetrative intercourse that could lead to fertilisation. But it really depends on the context in which you're using 'virginity' and the purposes for collecting the stats. If you're looking at measuring sexual activity relating to STDs, then you'd include oral/anal. If you're looking at measuring sexual activity relating to teenage pregnancies, then you wouldn't.

Fussy. Technically, semen located on the outside of a pair of undies could still seep through (because clothes don't tend to be waterproof) and find its way into the vagina and towards an egg. The chances of fertilisation would be incredibly low though.

Pretty surprised by the results (especially considering how the societal norm goes).

Yes, but this is a poll of video game peoples lol; with a hefty number of them under or near 18.

Which actually makes it more of a likelihood. < 18 equates to being subject to significant levels of peer pressure.

If they were 'normal' teenagers sure, but the video game group, seems like for some reason, the number is lower; it's sad, but the gamer virgin stereotype for both genders does exist for a reason.

Meh, I don't try to discriminate against a specific group of people.
