Well, since I've got my job back, and once I take a nice chunk out of what I owe on my credit card bill, the PS3 and FF13 is my next purchase.

Finally finished FF13, just last night. My girlfriend and I are both disappointed by the ending, but for entirely different reasons.
She's unhappy because there's a lack of gameplay continuity between end-game and the grinding area to unlock everything and finish all the missions - i.e. all the characters are still there, and Cocoon hasn't collapsed.
I, on the other hand, am unhappy because the damn final boss fight was over within 6 minutes of total battle time, without excessive grinding, no ultimate weapons or anything. What happened to the massive 45 minute epic fights?(##RESPBREAK##)8##DELIM##Squishalot##DELIM##

Haven't been around since FF6? As Sephiroth, Ultimecia, Necron, Ultimate Sin, the Cannon could all be smashed in no time flat(well, unless you wanted that final .01 point for 100% in 10-2 as you needed to wait the full 30 mins); haven't gone up against the final boss of 12 yet(yeah yeah I know I know) so can't tell how long that one is meant to be, but since you can over grind in that game too.....

That's only if you actually grind seriously, hence my point about the lack of ultimate weapons. When I play, I play for the plot. I actually couldn't finish FF8 the first time around, because my group was literally weak enough for Griever to one-shot the entire party with Shockwave Pulsar. No Lionheart, no Save The Queen or anything else. Ditto with Sephiroth as well - I simply didn't have the defensive capabilities in the party to withstand his abilities.
My first FF8 victory was achieved using creative use of game mechanics (i.e. Aura, Angel Wing, an entire magic pool consisting of Ultima, Meteor and other massive-damage magic attacks, and zero crap spells so my random pool was always going to be devastating), unlikely my girlfriend who grinded until every attack basically did 9,999 damage.
In this case, the 'estimated' battle time was about 14 minutes, based on my party strength (since FF13 calculates estimates based on current party strength). Even then, it was still laughably easy.
I only really noticed it from FF9 onwards. The fight preceding the final battle (i.e. the one with the ongoing antagonist, e.g. Seymour from FFX) is generally the harder one.

Eh, pretty much any of the FF games that have the Giant Space Flea From Nowhere, is usually a harder fight against their dragon...though, some reversals exist too. But no, I mean literally, as even if you are max level in FF6, with everyone maxed out to the nines, and pull off the one hit KO on the Kefka portion of the boss, it still takes 10-15 minutes to just get there with all the other stuff that happens; a love of the other games just sorta skip over that now a days.
But if you want a game with over the top final battles, pick anything from the Enix side of Squareenix: Valkyrie Profile(Surt is a pita, but Loki...my god Loki....), the Star Ocean series(last boss of the second took me almost a half hour to beat him the first time, without turning on his hard mode), or anything like that.

Ahhhh, fair enough. While FF13 isn't quite a giant space flea, it comes pretty close.
Oh well, now to wait for 13-2 to come out!

FF-X took me a solid while to finish the final fights.
I later went on to gather the ultimate weapos, face the evil aeons and kill omega w/e.
Eventually got bored and just hit up ff7 again.
Which reminds me Igot ff9 a while ago, haven't played it yet since I find it hard to get into games lately.

I wouldn't call the last boss a giant space flea. ;) Although I agree that Orphan was an anti-climax, as in you basically could not lose unless you somehow had
no
ravagers/saboteurs of any capacity in your group, that's what most of the final (well, according to the storyline) bosses are like after their one winged angel forms.

hey, in my opinion, the fight against Ultimecia was FRIKKING LONG, though that's likely because A: my characters werent maxed out, and B: because she's a multi-phase fight.
well, its a bit late for me to input my opinion on a favorite FF but here it goes anyhow.
Final Fantasy X.
Its the first one that added voice-acting and did a damn good job about it, plus it has what has got to be THE most badass character in the entire franchise (Auron) and the most impossible clothes to cosplay ever (Seriously, take a look at those outfits, male and female, there's NO WAY to reproduce those things in real life, I mean, what the hell is holding lulu's top together?) Plus its plot was awesome, it had a nice twist, and yuna is one of the sweetest nicest characters i've ever seen in a game.
As far as gameplay goes however i hated the battle-system of most final fantasy games, I played them for the plot, the one exception is Final Fantasy 12, yep, while that game's plot, characters, and music sucked, it has the most fun battle-system ever.
Last but not least, the final fantasy with the best designed characters is Final Fantasy 8, :P seriously, the guys and girls from the main party (Squall, Irvine, Selphie, Quistis, Rinoa, Zell) if they were real people, they'd all be modeling for calvin klein.

That's like saying X and X-2 should be counted together.

Yeah but it's not actually possible to add in Crisis Core and Dirge before and after FF7 on the poll; they'd just get put onto the bottom.
