Damage meter in chat box.
Return to board index
I'm trying to build my own UI and I thought it would be a neat idea to put something like recount as a tab in my chat box to save some space on my screen.
Edit: Heh, I totaly forgot to put in that I can't find an addon like this and if someone could point me in the right direction. :P
You know, that's not really a bad idea. I think it would be achieved with a visual effect before someone does like you're suggesting though. As long as your Recount is on a higher level than your chat box, then you could set a chat tab look-alike button that shows and hides Recount. It would take a little coding and scripting, but I'm sure it could be done.
I would try to do this my self but the most I know about scripting is what I learned in 8th grade a few years ago. :(
This post was from a user who has deleted their account.
Nah, as long as the meter is on the top level with an opaque background, the hide/show button could just make it disappear and reappear.
I've actually done this before using kgPanels and Recount. I remember in the PYUI thread having seen it before, and replicated it for my UI at the time.
You make a chat tab specifically for this reason, and have the panel tied to it. Set the tab to have no chat text in it, so nothing the raid/party says interferes. Then, in the panel' scripting, you have something of the following in the OnLoad section of the panel you are setting up:
changing the ChatFrame number to be which ever chat frame you are using for this effect. I used
to figure that out. If you aren't using Recount, then use /framestack to figure out what the meter's frame is, and use that instead of Recount_MainWindow.
When you want to hide the meter, use the following:
and use that to hide the frame (you'll have to repeat that block of code for each chat tab you have so it'll hide on any other chat tab being selected).
Linkl the the posts in PYUI where I and the person I got the code from were talking about it if I was confusing. Scroll up a bit to see the UI it's in.
My better half uses a UI compilation ("Elk's variant of Tukui", she says) which does this with Skada inside a chat window. She says it works well.
