I remember playing Dark Age of Camelot, and using Dyes. Was a wonderful Mechanic in game. If you had a piece of gear that was off color, or you wanted to change it? You'd go buy some dye, and change it to whatever color you wanted.
Some dyes were more expensive than others (i.e. Jet Black), but it was always worth the money spent.
In all the time I've been playing WoW, that's the one single thing I've always wanted them to implement. Not the graphics glitch of my characters hands being inside the back of my mount, or the lack of variety in the quests (3 cores types and that's it), or any number of 'complaints'. Just Dyes.

Heh. Blizzard saying "Dyes are hard!". That's the best. Greatest Selling MMO ever, one of the most widespread games in the past 50 years, and Blizzard whines that 'It's hard!'. Classic.
I'd love a Pink Tauren. That'd be the fantastic.

Comments like this make me shake my head.... any of the comments about how programming something is 'oh so easy, do it Blizzard stop complaining!': first off, take a standard piece of Tier armour; if you had dyes in game, they would need to program it for every possible colour combination that exists in the game at the time, as well as needing to shape the armour to the model it's on, then to have change it if the model in question has shape-shifting(aka leather on a druid). Then of course, they have to keep setting up more and more as they go through step 1-whatever for the other colour combination's. Seriously, it's never as simple as one click and done.

Well it sure is a good thing that I didn't say 'Oh so easy, do it Blizzard stop complaining." But by all means, misconstrue what I'm saying. I obviously meant 'every possible color combination that exists in the game at the time, as well as needing to shape the armor model it's on, then have to change it if the model in question has shape-shifting (aka leather on a druid)".
Nothing like going to extremes when reading a post, hey Adamsm?

Classic. That was what you said, mocking Blizzard's response, without considering what would be needed to change in game for something that is, like the hair cuts and faction/race transfers, purely cosmetic. And what I put, while 'extreme' is also true, it's not a matter of just adding a few lines of code to add it into the game. But hey, if it's so easy, get hired by Blizzard and add it in, there you go.

You make it seem like it's figuring out how to harness the power of a Black Hole. I say it's not as difficult as you make it seem.
Blizzard is arguably one of the most talented gaming companies on the planet in terms of programming. But you're right. Impossible.
And I did say 'it's as simple as adding a few lines of code'.
How about just saying 'It'd be nice, shame they won't add it', instead pulling what my ex-wife used to do over everything anyone said ever, and drag it to the far end of the spectrum.
Nevermind, it's a forum. Think whatever you want.

Even freakin' RUNESCAPE has dyes... mind you its a much more simplistic graphics and model style but still.....
Like Kladde pointed out above with his right-on-target quote, implementing something that seems so simple is actually in their words: "a herculean task". I would agree with that once you look in to the technicality of the whole thing.

As I've said in other threads.
If we have the ability to recolour gear, then half of the Blizzard staff would be out of jobs!

If I can remember right, dyes in RS can only recolour certain capes and robes, not armour.

I would be fine with simply offering a choice of a couple of colors when buying a piece of high-end gear. However, I do have to agree that I find it a bit of a cop-out when Blizzard says that it's "difficult". I understand that, as I know a bit about coding.
However,
other games do it
- games with far less money backing them. At the very least, if they cannot apply it to old gear, I would think they could start designing new gear to allow it, and then work backward to update old models in their 'spare' time.

Perhaps they should use some of their billions of dollars and hire people just for the task of coding it. You know, so they don't work their wittle fingews off as it is.
