So when you say N****R N****R N****R N****R N****R N****R N****R, and you're white, you don't get to hide behind the First Amendment for your %^&*ed up racist views.
So if I say %^&*!@ in any context I'm a racist?
Depends; are you black, or any combination of African-*insert nationality here*? If not, using that term, even 'jokingly' is still a bad idea, as someone who is the 'right' nationality would have the right to beat you down.... and as Shin-Goiji said:
But I would not piss on you to put you out when the consequences of your actions light you on fire. I will point and laugh and watch you burn. That's my own train of thought heh.... Of course, he's semi-bad for it, even though he's white as white bread: One of the catch phrases of TKT is "Kaiju Please", and you can guess what that's referring to, and more then just the Space Godzilla's use it.

I completely disagree and I think it's a disturbing outcome of political correctness that anyone holds that opinion. Verbal abuse does not a justify physical abuse. Words are completely harmless, but that's not how people act. It is intent that indicates how you should respond. Whatever happened to sticks and stones?
Sticks and stones may break my bones
But words will never hurt me
Unless I say !@#$%^
Then I'm inviting people to beat me up
No, seriously, no./shrug The way the World is unfortunately; words can hurt, and hiding behind Free-Speech when your spewing hate speech and racist remarks isn't right. Even that thing that was linked with Dr Laura, where the wife was asking her to stop, and the old broad kept using the term, and not in a 'hey what's up my n****a' version, she shouldn't have been surprised that she was asked to get the hell off of TV.
But I would not piss on you to put you out when some guy lights you on fire for saying a word he finds offensive. I will point and laugh and watch you burn.
Fixed, because that's what he's really saying.
Actually... no, he meant the other thing; he's done a webcomic about it before lol... of course, it was done Godzilla toys so some of the impact might have been lost.

@DoctorLore:
I'm wondering if you can list for me an acceptable use of this word outside of a discussion like this one? I wouldn't call myself pro-censorship (I'm mostly white, and I'd probably qualify as a liberal), but for my own part, saying this word feels about as wrong as using the C-word in front of my grandmother. It's just a hurtful word in general, it's ugly and I don't like it, so I don't use it... ever. I realize it's sorta silly to attach this much 'power' to a word, but I can't help it. As an example, when I listened to Dr. Laura's rant, I thought it was disrespectful, offensive, and unnecessary. In addition, when I listen to music and/or comedians where every other word is the "n word," I also think this is disrespectful and unnecessary. In fact, almost every use of the word bothers me, at least a little (the only exception I can think of would be a discussion like this one). This isn't me taking offense on behalf of anyone, its me taking offense myself... I don't like disrespectful actions.
I would probably agree that its "okay" to use the word in a discussion like this one, specifically
about
the word (though even in this type of discussion, I still don't even feel right typing it out), but I'm wondering if you had any other specific situations in mind when you said "in any context." I'm curious whether or not I would agree.
edit: clarity..

Fair enough. Although I wouldn't use the word for any of those purposes, I suppose all I can do is decide that
I
shouldn't use it in a way that I would find offensive or could justify someone else finding offensive. As far as controlling what other people do, I would agree that's not my business.
Another quick question: Would you agree there are "unacceptable" uses, or is it 'No-Holds-Barred' when it comes to words for you?

I basically agree with what you just said, thanks for the thoughtful response =)
Now, to attempt to re-rail the thread, here's Jon Stewart's take on the Islamic Center / Quran situation:

Who cares? It's a word. A made-up combination of sounds and you interpret it as you like.
Spoken like a person who has never had a racial or hateful slur thrown at him/her.

People need to be more resilient and grow a pair. Seriously, if you're going to cry over some idiot calling you a name, that's pitiful.
Uh huh; never mind what the word in question could mean, depending on your race, gender and all the rest, and how much bad history it pulls up, you should just have a stiff upper lip and power on eh Snazzyy? Whatever.

Not the entire thing, but it does make a part of them, and if you disbelieve that well.... yeah.

Please explain it to me if you think that I'm missing something.
Everything; our history, our past, our family history, makes up who and what you are in the now. Simple logic; if you don't see that then you are missing out on something.
