They should have Holy Pallies wear mail while Ret and Prot talent into wearing plate, here's why.

Yes, this would upset the RPers. How large a contingent of the player base is that, though?
A lot, enough for blizzard to dedicate RP servers. Even more if you count people like me who dress differently while idling in major cities.
If we're talking about solutions that blizzard would never read, you can have the armour restrictions start at level 60 and have the stat inactive rather than being incapable of wearing it.

Make more items that are only viable for a single spec, just like it used to be (remember Retribution and Bear/Cat gear?) Problem solved. More RNG fun. More enchanting mats. Great thing to have.
Lol. Joking, right?

Mail with mp5 is pure resto shaman, and mail with hit is pure elemental shaman. Sure, the Haste/crit pieces are funtastic for both specs, but there's already at least three separate cases where gear is specific to a single spec.

I will continue maintaining that the new Spirit -> Hit talents will be for a Healer's offspec, and not an excuse to share gear, until Cataclysm launches and proves me wrong. It just seems odd to me that Blizzard would explicitly say that "Spirit will be healer only, spirit gear is healer gear," then toss that in there.

I think the spirit ---> hit talent is for the Judgement & Exorcism talents that you can use while healing.

Actually I believe Paladins are the only healing class not getting it.
The Spirit -> Hit talents seem to be in the spell DPS trees of each healer. (Shadow, Balance, Elemental.)
Nevermind, I just looked at the holy tree and found it. How curious.
Edit 2.0: Curiouser and curiouser, I checked the Balance and Elemental trees and found no trace of these talents. I found it in the Shadow tree, but it wasn't a 1:1 ratio of Spirit -> Hit. Am I just blind, or did they take those talents out?

It's baked into a Judgement talent, seems pretty obvious to me that they want you to be able to use Judgement to keep Judgements of the Pure up without having to worry about missing. Also useful for the Denounce talent if you decide to get that one.

Elemental gets it from Elemental Precision and Balance gets it from Balance of Power. :-)

Ah, there they are indeed. Interesting that they chose to give Shamans and Druids a 1:1 Ratio, but priests only get 12% of their Spirit as Hit rating. Pallies I understand -- it can be very detrimental for your judgements to miss. The difference is, though, the talent is in their healing tree, and it's used for their healing. The other classes, on the other hand, have that talent in their spell DPS trees, high enough up for the healing specs to reach it. I suppose so that those healers can DPS here and there if they choose to.
Just seems strange to me. I guess time will tell.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong but I think they said shammies and caster druids will share the exact same gear (except tier sets I guess) with their healing/spell DPS builds. As in: There'll only be one kind of gear for leather & mail spellcasters, much like spell plate at the moment.
Priests will still have access to hit gear like the other casters but perhaps they'll be forced to use some spirit gear for some reason... Maybe they're going to share tier sets with holy/disc?

Yeah, this is why I'm thinking maybe it will either require a ridiculous about of Hit Rating to reach spellcap, or that those numbers may get tweaked. Like I said, it just seems odd that Blizzard would be so dramatic in their announcement of Spirit being healer-only and every healer will use it, then put these talents in.
They make sense as a "I do my dailies in Shadow Spec but don't have Shadow-specific gear," kind of way, it just seems odd to have a straight conversion like that. I can't think of a similar function (Attribute -> Rating/Power) that works on a 1:1 ratio. A Tankadin's Touched by the Light only give 60% Strength as Spell Power, a Priest's Spiritual Healing is only 25% of Spirit to Spell Power.
This is why I felt like it was more of a crutch for healing offspecs than for DPS to share gear. Of course I could be completely misguided, but it's just Blizzard's intent with the "Spirit is for Healers" deal that's throwing me off.

Well, like I said, spirit will apparently be the only source of hit (other than misc items: rings, necks, cloaks & trinkets) for balance druids, elemental shamans and holy paladins. Doubt shadow priests will use it on live...

Seems strange, but completely possible. Is there a source on that, by chance?

This would make sense, as it would limit the number of "flavors" of any armor to two (well, three in the case of plate). Holy paladins remain special little princesses.
Princesses of AWESOME.
Thanks for the correction on enhancement ---> ele. :-P My bad.

. I know it's an old post and all, but I'm 99% sure it's been posted after that as well. :-P
"If you are a Balance druid or Elemental shaman:
* You will still share gear with Restoration druids and shaman.
* Your gear will have Spirit on it. It won’t have Hit on it.
* You will have a talent that converts Spirit to Hit. We will adjust talents accordingly so that you want about as much Spirit as, say, a warlock wants Hit.
* Hit on rings and other such gear will still benefit you.
* Raid buffs will no longer boost Spirit, so you shouldn’t find yourself unexpectedly over the Hit cap because of buffs."
But looks how much the thread has derailed now. :-P We're on the pally forum after all.
