You mean
Plate Specialization
/. >:(
I'm not sure why this should be a flame war or a QQ thread. Blizzard has stated previously that they don't like the fact that there is an entire subgroup of armor that only gets used by one spec of one class. The OP offered a change that he thought would fix this problem. It's one that I doubt Blizzard will adopt—for feel reasons, and because if they were going to adopt it they probably would have already—but it's not a bad idea.

I haven't read the entire thread, but yike if it got Malgayne's attention :-P
My mind set to your suggestion armill is this...
I can wear a hundred pounds of plate, giant heavy football pad shoulders, gaudy helmets I can barely turn my head in, move my fingers in these steel gauntlets as easily as a rogue can manipulate his fingers in sleek leather gloves.... but I'll be damned if I can't put this
dress
on!

Not being able to wear armor other than your own classes is gonna suck on RP realms. That implementation would just be terrible.

I dont approve of holy pallys rolling on mail leather or cloth healer gear, but I fully understand their situation. Its not like they need the 25000 armour anyway. They will still die in one hit if the raid boss decided that they are tastier than the tank.
My suggestion is to give holy pally a talent similar to

,
but give spellpower instead of attack power.
No. Currently, Intellect is our primary stat. Spell power is actually lame for us. Yeah, it helps us heal more. That's it. And we (if you're doing it right, and not a FoL-tard) spam Holy Light, which overheals by quite a bit. Haste is a far better throughput stat.
But they're doing what you suggested anyway, sort of. 5% extra intellect when we wear all plate.

Ok so there have been 4 pages of comments on the pve standpoint on paladins wearing mail to heal instead of plate, why has noone mentioned the pvp aspect of it?
I dont pvp alot but i would assume people who play holy paladins in arena would be angry as all hell to lose 5-6k armor, its survivability and that is what holy paladins are all about.
I am aware that in Cataclysm alot will be changing and perhaps the holy paladin (or paladin class in general) will not be as durable as they were in Wrath, but changing a "holy warriors" armor to suit drop rates and raid comps is imo just something else that would turn players off to the class.
From my point of view paladins are by far the most played class, its the flavor of Wrath i know but its also a hybrid, and while i wouldnt mind seeing less paladins around (since my god they are everywhere) I wouldnt want people to stop playing them because of a change to the class so drastic that it removes the feel of it being unique.

None of this would be an issue if they just itemized holy plate properly.
Hopefully, Cataclysm will address this, but considering that they are putting in that modifier when wearing plate, my guess is they won't fix it.
I wonder how many holy paladins would embrace full on plate for 5% int right now. My guess is that many of the lesser geared ones would be happy to while the more progressed ones would keep right on doing what they are doing since their mana pools are big enough already and they have oodles of regen.
In other words, exactly no change to what we have now -- people gearing up will take the plate if they can get it. The better geared people will find those specific drops that emphasize the stats they need for the best HL throughput and regen.
So I am not entirely half-is-glass empty. I do like the changes to the class in many ways. But I am not optimistic about the gear. They simply don't seem to understand what paladins need to do their job properly.
Here's hoping I am wrong and it will all get sorted out.
But don't forget that, depending on where stats are in the expansion, 5% will end up being quite a large difference. I don't think that some slightly preferable itemization can outweigh 5% Intellect (and, by extension, spellpower.)
I'm curious about how much Hit Rating will be required for Cap, compared to the amount of Spirit that we find on gear. I'm a bit on the fence about those talents, simply because Blizzard was so gung-ho about Spirit being "only a healer stat". Perhaps the amount of spirit on gear won't be enough to contribute to the cap? I just find it odd that they're back-pedaling on it like that now.
As an aside, I know they mentioned those talents way back, but I always simply assumed they would be a way for healers to use their healing gear in an offspec and not be useless, not to be a way for DPS specs to get all their hit from spirit. Then again, DPS specs won't have meditation, so it's not like they'll be double-dipping.

I haven't read all the post here, but I understand that it makes holy pala's stand out for just the only class to get plate gear with specific healer stats with no competition. But suppose blizzard have a liking to that class due it being so special in their hearts with the Lore!
But I'm sure if the game continues to advance like it is, somewhere a new hero class will fit in to prob share this gear.....unless they overwrite all the gear mechanics of specific types of gear to something totally new.....
See what happens in the far future!
