DPS have damage meters to tell themselves how wonderful they are. Thanking them would just get passed by as they spammed their DPS meters.
The tank knows if he did his job well because he picked up all the mobs and didn't let anyone die to aggro.
The healer knows he did his job well because he kept the tank alive and no one died to AoE.
This is absolutely no different than a DPS knowing he did well because he sees his name on top of the damage meter.
Anyone who thinks healers and tanks should be complimented on a job well done but not DPS is an idiot and/or a hypocrite.
I've been especially appreciative of DPS that knows what the hell they're doing these days. FAR too often I've been stuck in a pug where everyone is around 5k gs and struggle to stay above 2k DPS. So when someone comes in and does 50% of the group's damage, he is the only reason the instance didn't take ages (or was impossible, see:H:HoR).
---
I play every role, and I play them all fairly equally. I always do my best to make the group succeed no matter what class and spec I happen to be playing, but the ONLY times I see compliments are as a healer or tank. I don't care if I get compliments for doing my job or not, it's just ridiculous that people never compliment DPS, even when they're exceptional (I'm talking about doing well with the gear they have, not doing 3k because you're slacking off while getting your daily frost done wearing 6k gs).
Being good at damage dealing is just as easy as it is to be good at tanking or healing. People just lose all appreciation because there is a sea of barely adequate dps out there waiting to replace you if you DC.

Then at the end I don't say anything because everyone leaves while I'm looking through my bags for the "bag of useful items" that I never seem to get.
Get a bag mod like Arkinventory. It'll change your life.

On both my tank and my dpsers, I always start with a "hi all" or something like that. If people respond in a friendly manner, I'll add a smiley or something. After that, especially on my tank, I focus on my job - a trouble free run. I don't respond to "gogogo". At the end of the run I say thanks, take care, and that's all. I hardly find people that say anything during the run, but if they do, I'll gladly talk.
I'm hardly ever rude, unless attacked first. If I see an undergeared dps or healer trying their best, I'll tell them they're doing a good job. If I see a well geared slacker, I'll tell them to wake up. That's it.

f.
usually let me get into any of the ICC 5mans about every 3 wipes or so.
Press 'i'.
Select 'Specific dungeons'.
Select the ICC 5 mans.
?
Proft.
Doesn't work if you need to *farm*, only the random option bypasses lockouts.

Seems that no one talks. I greet my fellow dungeon runners and
sometimes
receive a response.
Most of the time, that's the only thing that's said.
I've gotten into the habit of saying "tyfg" (Thank You For (the) Group) at the end and waiting a few seconds before leaving in case anyone wanted anything (such as another run).

I drop in say hi
Carry on tanking/DPS'ing
I respond to my group members questions etc. usually I am the one who talks the most..
PS: Btw whats up with people dissing the rude tanks/healers or whatever? It doesn't make them play better and I don't think they are even going to consider their behaviour afterwards :P
IMO it just makes you look like a #$%^..

Do you say 'bb' when dropping group from LFD, or something.... or are you one of the rude type, who just leaves without a word?
It lasted pretty long but someone had to say it...
WTH is 'bb'...?

Bye bye, I think.
OP: I always say hello when I join a group and thank you when the run is over. If the tanking or healing has been exceptionally good, I comment on it.
I normally don't talk during runs because my fingers are too busy doing something else. If the run is a slow one, then I'll chat a bit. I really don't mind slow runs. I realise that although I am there for badges, others are gearing up and possibly doing quests.
A few times I've been in groups with people who weren't performing as well as they could have with their gear, so I told them about Wowhead class forums.
I don't mind if people don't say anything. What I don't like is a tank who pulls as soon as he enters, not even bothering to check that everyone is ready to go (did the healer come in with half mana, or are the dps half dead? Let them get sorted first!). A dps who decides to pull instead of letting the tank pull. A healer who refuses to heal anyone but the tank. That's what I take issue with. Do your job, and do it properly.

I'm always friendly, unless I'm being openly attacked. I generally say hello and I never drop a group. If I do something stupid I apologize and I never give grief to those not pulling their weight. I see no reason to ever be rude. This is just a game there really is no need to take it too seriously.
