Don't know if this is still ongoing or a problem on my end, but, I'm having a problem where the client will attempt to connect to wowhead to update client, make no progress and give an error message on two lines, of which only the first which reads, 'A connection attempt failed because the connecting party did' is visible, and whether i hit retry or cancel, I get the ol' doc watson windows error reporting window. I've tried deleting the client, and the add-on, removed the references from the registry, downloaded and installed from scratch, to no avail. I'm running XP Pro with service pack 3. any help would be appreciated.

I'm also running XP service pack 3 and having this problem, I get to Updating Wowhead_Looter.lua 100% of 790 bytes then "A connection attempt failed because the connecting party did..." if I click retry the program crashes and offers to send the error report and if I click Cancel it asks if I'm sure then asks to send a error report.
It might be useful if you could give us a physical link to download the updates from manually since so many people have had issues with the automatic updates for so long.

Some log files would be helpful, you can find them in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Wowhead\Wowhead Client\log\
edit: this is for Windows XP(##RESPBREAK##)2##DELIM##Aryu##DELIM##

Not working for me either (also first time using this). Getting the same thing as Ratxue. Also don't have any files or Wowhead folders under Application Data under any of my accounts.
Post by
Aryu
That was the path for Windows XP, if you're using Win7, try C:\ProgramData\Wowhead\Wowhead Client\log
That being said this issue only seems to happen with Win XP users so far.

Yeah, I'm using Windows XP SP3. If left to update it will come up with the error message "A connection attempt failed because the connected party did" and it crashes whether I hit Retry or Cancel. It also crashes if I hit cancel while it's still trying to connect.
Also, when I start a fresh version up the window reads "Connecting to Wowhead." If I prematurely cancel the next time I start it up it will still say "Connecting to Wowhead."
If I let it get to the error message "A connection attempt failed because the connected party did" and hit retry, the next time I start it up it briefly flashes "Connecting to Wowhead" and then proceeds to say "Downloading the latest client version."
It will then go to the connection error message, and if cancel is pressed it will crash and go back to saying "Connecting to Wowhead" on the next start up.
Not sure if it's helpful at all, but that's just what I've noticed.
Edit: And aside from putting a couple files in regedit on the first run, the program doesn't put anything else on my computer.

Hey I had this problem a while back - try disabling your anti-virus while uploading to WowHead.
Once I did that the upload worked smoothly - my anti-virus is Kasperski btw
Don't forget to re-enable it once you are done tho :s
