How to use the site guide? (and some random feedback)

TL;DR version:
I'm not sure if it's worth it or not, but more than once I've run across some examples of site functionality that I didn't know existed. Maybe a general guide to how to use the site would be helpful.
Blathering version:
For example, over in the professions forum, there was a post listing all of the Engineering skills that would be yellow/orange for an Engineer with a skill of 240. Very helpful, but I looked for that myself and couldn't find it (I was looking in Items, rather than Spells, since I don't associate Engineering with spells). I was pretty sure the information was on the site somewhere, but didn't know how to find it.
And while I'm on the subject of items... take a look at the
Items page for Engineering
.
Specifically, notice the fact that there's a filter available for "Required level" but there's no data for that in the columns. Put just about any value in the "Required level" and poof, no results. There's no filter available for "Skill level" but that data is in the columns. And side? What's the difference between "Alliance" and "Alliance Only"? "Alliance" seems to be showing things that are... both. Wait, what? There's a "Both" option. I'm confused.
But back to my original topic.
What I'm thinking of is a basic "How to use the site" guide. Examples of filters. Where to find information on quests. Just a general orientation on how to use the site. There's a whole lot of information here, and even after a few months of use I don't feel that I know much about what can be done. The filtering of Engineering "spells" is just the latest example. I'd offer to write this, but as you can probably tell from this post alone, I'm often not the most eloquent writer. And I'm certainly not very knowledgeable about the site operation.
Would it be a nice thing to have? Do people think it's a silly idea? Are waffles better than pancakes?

Are waffles better than pancakes?
Most pertinent question, to which we should answer "yes", unambiguously.

I love the topic title...
OT: Could indeed be handy, however in my opinion the site is clearly enough once you get the hang of it.

Im not sure. I hear they both are made from the same exact recipe... But for some odd reason, pancakes make me sick but waffles make me.. well, play more WoW!

No idea what you're talking about... *whistles unconvincingly*

Given that I've been using the site since October and just the other day learned how to filter on skill level...
Hmm. I'm not sure if that's a reflection on the site or just on my dense skull. I could see the argument going either way, really.

We actually had someone composing a handy-dandy guide to filter use that never saw the light of day. We have been trying lately, with our more recent features, to include well documented how-tos and instructional guides documenting the ins and outs of toying with the new tools. If you do find anything especially overcomplicated just let us know specifically and I can see if we can find someone with the time to throw something together.
Also, I know our filters are generally a nightmare - we've been trying to make time for a filter revamp for literally
years
. :(

While I'm blathering on about general stuff, allow me to mention the client...
/wl nospam
Know how I found that? Poking through the addon script. I did notice that there was a bit of help text, when I tried typing in "/wl nospa" or similar. Could this be added to the
client page
? Even just something like "type
/wl help
for a list of other commands" would be nifty (assuming that's a real command, I've forgotten).
(apologies, I've been spending the day reviewing o-fish-al documents, so I'm in nitpicky mode today)
In regards to finding things overly complicated, I'll point them out as I see them. But unfortunately some things I don't know about. For instance, when I started browsing the site, I didn't know there was any way to filter items for specific levels.
I wonder if there are ways to do things like filtering based on skill color. That is, if my Blacksmith is at skill level 285, can I restrict it to show
just
the orange skills? Or do I have to guesstimate on skill level? Dunno.
So saying that something is complicated can be difficult if I don't even know that it's possible or not.
Finally, just to make it clear -- I do totally understand about time restrictions and having time to implement everything you want. In no way should my posts here be read as "now now now! Fix fix fix!" Knowing that these things are already known (and have even been worked on, even if that work wasn't finished) is pretty much all I was looking for.
