Question about Frost Lotus and Uld

I keep reading about the wonderful farming potential for herbs (especially FL) in the Conservatory of Life. I have a maxed out rogue (perfect from what I read) but have one question: do you have to kill any bosses before you can get in to the conservatory of life, or can you just sneak in? I have never done Uld (started WOW last summer and Uld was already dead).

You have to kill FL and 2 more bosses before you can access it.

Yeah...the reason why Frost Lotus prices have skyrockted is because barely anyone does Ulduar anymore. You can go straight from heroics to ToC, and then to ICC, so Ulduar is useless unless you're looking for a specific gear piece, or your guild wants to go for one of the drakes from there.
3.1 Frost Lotus Prices: ~25g each
Post 3.1 Frost Lotus Prices: 50g or higher, each.
Non-herb alchemists like me are sad pandas :(

thanx. I guess I will have to talk a few people into killing the first few bosses. Wintergrasp is ok, but Frost Lotus is getting harder and harder to come by. On my server (bonechewer) it is going for no less than 50g (often much more) and my main money maker is flasks. During peak hours, there are times when ther eare actually no flasks on the AH because no one can make them do to scarcity of FL.

This is the minimum, but it is a good idea to kill Auriya and the 3 tree bosses as well. Auriya so you don't get randomly killed when porting in and the 3 mini boss trees so you can get those herb easier.

Do you honestly think the reason for the Frost Lotus prices is lack of Ulduar runs? Frost Lotus coming out of Ulduar was just a SMALL contribution to the overall Frost Lotus supply. There's maybe like 5 or 6 spawn points in the room (and that's assuming you are bothered to clear all the trash to get to them all), and another couple from the Alchemist cache. 8 frost lotus per raid isn't going to put a dent in the overall supply from people farming.
There's three possible reasons for Frost Lotus price increase:
Decrease in Supply (lack of Ulduar would be minimal effect)
Decrease in Supply (overall drop rate decrease, totally unconfirmed and likely in people's heads)
Decrease in Supply (less people farming, probably not likely)
Increase in Demand (most likely sources)
Inflation (gold is worth less, likely a slight contributor)
Honestly, people not running Ulduar, and having a handful less Frost Lotus coming into the supply base, is most likely not the cause for any increase in frost lotus prices you may be seeing.

You underestimate the crafty. It is a lot more than 8 lotuses, because they respawn with soft reset. A couple of guildies make a killing from lotuses by steamrolling over FL/XT/Kolo/Auriya the first day of lockout, parking their herbing alts there and then just logging for couple minutes of picking herbs (around 3 lotuses per run, without clearing trash) every hour or so when they are online for the rest of the week. That's a TON of herbs right there.

You beat me to the punch. Yeah, I have heard of guys getting over 100 frost lotus a week doing the resets. Now that Uld is untouched, they are competing with everyone else in Wintergrasp and storm peaks and whatnot. Add to that the fact that flasks are selling like crazy. It has gotten to where you are better off selling the Frost Lotus than the flasks, even as an Elixir master. FL rarely drops below 50g now, whereas some guys still sell flasks for 30g (on occasion)

There are holes in their pathing large enough for you to loot the herbs and restealth. There's also spots where you can start looting at the max range of the mobs pathing and vanish as the mob agros onto you after you loot the herbs.
