There doesn't seem to be much mention of SimulationCraft (or simc for short) on Wowhead, so I thought a sort of
bump was in order.
From the official site:
SimulationCraft is a tool to explore combat mechanics in the popular MMO RPG World of Warcraft (tm).
It is a multi-player event driven simulator written in C++ that models raid damage and (in the near future) threat generation.
Increasing class synergy and the prevalence of proc-based combat modifiers have eroded the accuracy of traditional calculators that rely upon closed-form approximations to model very complex mechanics. The goal of this simulator is to close the accuracy gap while maintaining a performance level high enough to calculate relative stat weights to aid gear selection.
SimulationCraft allows raid/party creation of arbitrary size, generating detailed charts and reports for both individual and raid performance. Currently, it is a command-line tool in which the player profiles are specified via parameter files.
It's a very flexible tool, and can easily be used to provide an estimate on how much dps a
Wowhead Profile can do. What that means for you is that you can easily load your character up in the Wowhead profiler and run the simulator (see the
Import >>
Wowhead tab inside simc) on that character to see your estimated DPS. You can then use the 'save as' feature here on Wowhead to save yourself as a copy (for example SimulationcraftVlet is my testing copy), change around some gems, hit save, and then run the simulator on this copy to see whether or not the changes have been beneficial.
So often, people in the Rogue forums, when asking questions about gemming or gear upgrades are simply told, "spreadsheet it", but the problem is that the spreadsheets with updated game logic only include high level gear that many people who are asking for help don't have. Simulationcraft does not have this problem, it is relatively easy to use, and is not a rogue-only tool.
I hope this helps some people out.

Try out
http://www.maxdps.com/People still use that? Last time I checked, it was horribly outdated with everything - and that's closer to a year than a half ago.
