You could say that all roles require no skill
All healers have to do is heal people getting low. All tanks have to do is keep mobs attacking them. All dps has to do is do damage.
I could say that and I probably agree with it too
In other words:
WoW (PvE) is too easy QQ

DPS must take some sort of skill, otherwise there wouldn't be "bad" damagers, and all those stories about "This guy had 5200 gearscore but was terrible damage."
I'm not staying it takes a high degree of skill, but there's still some skill involved.

Ok im gonna go ahead and rant before the thread gets locked. DPS does take skill. Lets think outside of wow for a moment. Doing a backflip takes skill. As you learn how to do it, It gets easier over time with practice. Learning how to play an instrument, throw a football, watever. It all takes skill, but gets easier through practice. Now lets say you set one goal, like doing a hand stand for 10 seconds. Eventually it will get so easy that you will have to present new goals, Like walking on your hands up a flight of steps. Still need to be able to do a handstand but now its goona take more coordination and conditioning. This is how wow pve works. You learn the mechanics of your class first. once you have that down, you go to more and more difficult content gearing(conditioning) your toon till what was a challenge at first is now very easy compared to the next goal or obstacle.
/rant
dont get me started on skill vs talent.

Because knowing the theory makes you able to do it in practice right away, amirite?

Wel, let me start by saying I'm a furywarrior that obviously does PvE mainly(although bursting down a 30k hp full PvP geared DK in 6seconds is fun once in a while).
I play fury for 3years+ now ever since I started Karazhan. I PuG A LOT eventhough I'm in a decent raidingguild.
First of al, PvE takes knowledge mainly. You must know the bosmechanics(hello raidleader that prefers to kil the holy paladin first that gets controlled piseasy by any rogue and the rogue last that goes around 2 shotting people).
Knowledge of your clas, your rotation etc.
Second it takes awarenes, now I played Counter-strike at a pretty competitive level, I tanked 5-mens for over a year(5mens are harder for a tank then raids), this is somthing I consider normal, the treat established on every mob is always in my head, I know the positions of everyone, everyone's status etc.
Thirth it takes a leader, and this is why most PuG's fail. Most PuG's have sombody that gathered 9/24 people but doesn't do @#$%.I personaly PuG'd up to Yog in Ulduar10...at the start of 3.1 with most people in Nax10/25 gear where 9/10 got our first kils after killing Hodir.
And last, to make a good player, you need to think fast and think outside of the box. I tanked KT25 on my warrior with a fast taunt+shieldwall, shieldwall was over I started using shieldblock and because the other tank made plenty of treat I was just typing(was a PuG) for CD X from that clas letting them chain me a bit. Tanked him from 20% to dead and won my second betrayer :).(this was in 3.0 btw)
I don't know but I think al in al it takes more skil then running around pilars in arena and seriously, I did arena casual to 1800+. It gets reptive FAST.

Learning what moves a bosses have and memorizing a rotation is entirely different. Memorization isn't a skill? Wow, learn something new everyday, huh?

You just find your optimal rotation and make sure u press ur buttons on time....
I could generalize on pve in general but the only skill in my mind that pve takes is organizational skill. skill as it relates to playing your character only really exists in pvp.
heroic dungeons are obviously mind numbingly stupid... but as for raids i think it takes a certain amount of skill to lead a raid, keep morale up, and make people do what they're supposed to do. Apart from that... it's just scripted stuff. People talk about skill, but all they're really talking about it go read up on what you're supposed to do when the boss does this or that... People talk about skill and dps, but it's really just paying attention and making sure you press your buttons on time or copying the right spec from a website...
Controlling cool downs, switching when you're supposed to. Staying out of fires.
It's not just LOLOL 1,2,3,4 ROTATION LOLOLclaveskillstormiwin like pvp is.

Topics in the PvE forum extolling the superiority of PvP are pretty much trolls by definition. This is done.
