I'm not missing, or losing, the point.
The "vote to kick" is for the purpose of getting rid of people from a group. It's being used exactly as Blizzard intended it to be used.
You're telling people to be careful of using it in case there are others in the group who are friends with the person to be kicked.
If someone is acting abrasive enough to get a kick vote in the first place, and you are defending their actions, then chances are that they don't want to run with
you
, either. There are plenty of tanks out there who can do the job without being an enabler for a friend with a bad attitude.
In other words, if you're kicking someone for being a jack-ass, and one of his friends happens to be in the group, and that friend disagrees with being a jack-ass, then you'll probably want to kick the friend as well.

I've been out of the game for a while, but doesn't the vote on the vote-kick feature have to be unanimous from the rest of the group to kick someone? So if I'm reading the OP correctly then he votes to kick his supposed RL friend for being an a-hole on a regular basis, then proceeds to wipe the group and hearths out himself? What a d-bag move.

My guild leader has quite a mouth on him, and being the hardcore raider he is has little tolerance for people pulling stupid crap in heroics. He gets kicked a lot, and I tend to take it badly. Pull, Bubble, exit, and watch everyone else wipe.
What are your names so I know when to leave lol, because honestly, if you pull that kind of crap well... you deserve a bad rep.

Just looking at the original post, I have to say you acted immaturely. So your crap mouthed GM gets kicked so you wipe the group? That screams maturity... (not.)
And secondly, even if your guild leader raids, the raiding environment is different than five mans. Five mans are for getting geared and experience, but most people seem ot think that everybody coming into them is ilevel 264 geared and top of the realm. False. Most people that come in are ilevel200 or lower people gearing up, and just trying to have a good time.

I raid all the time and sure their are goign to be people you group with who aren't as experience as you. Just yesterday I was group with a aplly tank that just ding 80. His gear isn't the best but that's fine. We wipe once and one of the dps start talking ^&*! and blah blah blah. Sure keep up that attitude and see who wants to be a group with you again. I pretty much go slower on the dps MD the tank when possible to him him a little and just let him know he have all the time he needs and not worry too much.
If you and ur GM hate others that isn't as gear as you guys are, I suggest stop using the LFG system or go play in traffic. Stop your complainning and enjoy the game.
Has nothing to do with gear. It has to do with the sort of dps you mention who start talking ^&*! when they don't get their way. Those are the people we end up in fights with.
Let me give you a rundown on some of the people he argued with:
1. Hunter who had his pet on aggressive and set to growl during the first fight in AN with the watchers, where we had a healer who wasn't highly geared.
2. Healer who sulked after we(we in this case included the other pugs) refused to do the Skadi achievement in UP, and stopped healing anyone but himself and the tank(me). When DPS died to cleaves and AoE, he wouldn't rez them. I had to.
3. DPS pulls mobs ahead of me, I ask them not to, they do it anyway. When asked again to stop pulling, they start acting like spoiled teenagers.
I highly doubt in those scenerios (especially the healer scenario), the other members of the group would have voted to kick your friend for calling those individuals out. So I am calling bull^&*!.

Maybe slightly off topic but I will just say this in all caps so maybe people can get finally understand/read this:
A SUCCESSFUL VOTE KICK ONLY REQUIRES 3 VOTES
Hope this helps. Can we put to rest all the inane comments about how the OP kicked his own friend?

Um...
5-2=3
Still possible for OP to vote no and still have his GM being kicked.
As for the topic in general.
@thecasualoblivio: Get another guildmate/friend to come with you and you can kick people out for being "bad" until you have a group that never makes any mistakes.
