Law abiding people should not respect someone's life if that person doesn't respect others lives and takes them.
So the value of life is therefore something extrinsic. Which means your life has no value on its own, only value insofar as extrinsic authorities decree that it has value. In which case, Saddam was perfectly justified in killing people.
Further--what is law? You make mention of it, so you should know what it means. Is it something purely man-made...whoever has the most power determines what law is? If that's so, you again have to justify Saddam's actions. If you believe that law is something beyond man, then who are you to condemn one man to death and let another live?
Should not respect for life exist for the sake of the life itself? That someone is a murderer or not does not change the fact that they have life, or even change the life in any way. You're positing a belief that doesn't actually respect life qua life.

Not sure how you got
In which case, Saddam was perfectly justified in killing people
from what I said so let me break it down.
No one is justified in striking the first blow, but if someone takes someone elses life then their life should be forfeit.
/awaiting twisting of my words anxiously :D

You position necessitates that life have no intrinsic value, in which case it can be taken away by one\ in authority (in our case it's our government taking away Saddam's life, in Saddam's case it's him taking away others' lives).

Sorry, I'm used to being on my own in a debate. When someone jumps in, my first reaction is to read them as against me.

IMO society has the right to take your life, because you're part of society.
So Saddam was justified, then?
But people should have right to choose whether they want to be part of society or not. Maybe we could isolate some part of the globe to be a place where there are no laws or society. And all the people who don't want to be part of society go there, and everybody lived happily ever after. not.
Respecting life has nothing do do with not respecting society. Society exists for the upholding of the individual.

You're never justified in taking a human life. However, I refuse to consider someone guilty of murder 'human'.

So to be human is something extrinsically designated. So the Nazis were justified in killing the Jews because they determined they weren't human. Americans were justified in enslaving Africans because they didn't consider then humans.

I'm just taking your principles and running with them to their natural conclusions. If you agree with those conclusions, then I pity you. If you don't agree with the conclusions but still hold to the principles, I pity you even more.

Now you're even lower than a debater, you're just a bad Mr.T impersonator. Poor shame, Hyperspace...

I have more people to pity, thus it's harder.
