I didn't think about this until last week, when my night elf death knight hit exalted with darnassus and received the "of Darnassus" title (I was already a champion in the Argent Tournament).
It would have been alot cooler, I think, if each race returned to present themselves to their faction leader for their official reprieve instead of going to King Varian or Warchief Thrall.
I would have loved for my death knight to have to kneel before Tyrande Whisperwind as she overlooked any former crimes committed as one of the Scourge.
It would have possibly even more meaning as, say, a blood elf or one of the forsaken.

Anyway, Thrall is the complete leader of the Horde - All other leaders are his adversaries and advisors.
Alliance, on the other hand, do not have this leader. The Alliance should pledge fealty to their racial leader, I feel.

gotta admit, watching velen forgiving a draenei Death knight for their past crimes would be EPIC!
most certainly more epic than reading from varian's lips "you are only alive due to my curiosity >-<"

yhea, velen and the vindicators, accepting a death knight back on the exodar would be EPIC!.
Sylvannas and the forsaken accepting a Death knigh (forsaken HATE more than anyone else the scourge, more than any other race on the world) would also be quite amazing.
maybe on cataclysm blizz will do that, add more flexibility to this quest-chain.

Its always going to be turned into Varian because he is the military leader of the Alliance, and in charge of all Alliance forces in Northrend.
Since when was Varian the leader of the Alliance?

Well, for all game porpouses, I think that Varian is the highest leader of all the Alliance, being the humans are the majority race of the Alliance and - for all lore and game reasons - the counterpart to orcs.

he is the military leader of the Alliance
At least in Northrend, but only as much power as anyone who try to leads from afar can do, though the Generals do more.

arg, let's not make this into yet another varian thread, if anyone wanna discuss whether or not varian is the undisputable leader of the alliance then go read the (blocked) thread that was made about it, or post your arguments on the varian thread.
pls let's stay focused here plp this is about wheter or not DK's should report to their individual leaders rather than 1 leader over-all-
CAN I GET AN AMEN?.

still, if varian ORDERS another racial leader to do something, the other leaders can either agree, or disagree, and if they disagree then there's nothing varian can do about it.
each leader, comands each race, varian at best can ask of them to do something, and if they agree, they do so.
thrall says jump and every single other leader of the horde says "how high sir"
thrall says "forsaken, stop making blight" and presto, no more blight, or abominations on UC.
varian doens't have that kind of autority on the alliance, if for any reason whatsoever he wanted to replace the draenei guards on the exodar with human troops, he has absolutely no autority to make that happen.

The amount of clout that Varian has as King of Stormwind is staggering.Except he doesn't; Only the humans of Stormwind follow Varian, as the other human kingdoms that still survive; Theramore Stromguarde and Gilenas, all have their own kings/queens. Those will follow their own leaders before they would follow Varian, and that is their right.
Not all humans in Azeroth are part of the Kingdom of Stormwind, just the player ones and the Southern Eastern Kingdom ones.

Jaina answers to Varian. "I'm proud of my King" and all that. She's still the leader of Theramore, and if Varian gives her an order, she can say no.
The survivors of Stromguarde, the League of Arathor, currently fights for Stormwind, as shown in the Arathi Basin description. There's fighting for their lands, not because the King of Stormwind said to.
The survivors of the Scourge of Lordaeron have sworn allegience to Stormwind.I doubt all of them are in Stormwind.
The Worgen obviously swear allegiance to Stormwind, as they make their new homes there after the fall of Gilneas. No, they use a portion of Stormwind as an embassy, same as the Dwarf district and the Park, unless you think that because of that, both the Dwarves and the Night Elves are part of Stormwind as well. The Worgen serve Greymane, not Varian.
So yes, they all answer to Varian.No.

Theramore is a seperate state from Stormwind. We don't know who she is referring to, when she speaks of her king. It might be Varian, it might be Teranas, Antonidas and numerous others. Gilneas is a different nation to Stormwind - We don't know for sure if it falls yet, and they would still be under the command of their own King, Genn Greymane.
I think it would be similar to the Stormwind refugees taking refuge in Lordaeron during the Second War.
