Zombie Invasion?
Return to board index

Q = i can't quest
A = it's forcing pvp content on people who specifically chose to play on a pve realm
Q = every question that QQs how horrible everything is
A = it's forcing you not to play a game you're paying to play.
I fixed it for you
And hope to show you
Your outlook is lame
Concerning this game
Not exactly a fix. No one was "forced" to not play during the one-time zombie invasion world event. I quested just fine during those times, just in different areas than what were affected by zombies.
According to Blizzard WoW EULA, Blizzard owns all the content and it can be changed at any time for any reason. So the game people are "paying to play", has no specific implied purpose or use at any time .
I was expanding his answers. He clearly stated that people who don't like it should log off.

The Scourge Invasion would have been better if everyone could have participated. The event sucked for new players because they couldn't quest since quest hubs were shut down and it was hard to participate in the event as a zombie when your health or level didn't scale at all, meaning you'd die instantly before you could do anything cool, be it by guard or by player. Losing auctioneers and other critical npcs didn't help matters either since it meant you couldn't even stop to level a profession while trying the wait the event out.
The Scourge Invasion event was cool and fun in theory, but it failed horribly in practice simply because your average person, when anonymous, will be the biggest &*!@#$bag possible when given the opportunity. The Scourge Invasion was that opportunity and even out-of-the-way areas found themselves under assault, at least on my server, so there was pretty much no such thing as "going somewhere else". "Log out until it's over" was a terrible solution too considering it's money out of your pocket regardless of whether you were logged in or not.
Most of the people who actually liked the event were:
- Already lvl70 so losing quest givers didn't matter to them and it was largely easier to defend yourself against zombies or at least easier to wreak havoc as a zombie when you were at or near the level cap.
- PvP lovers who jumped at the opportunity for any form of world PvP. This event was friggin' supermarket sweep for them, like a 6-day BG where you could kill anything that moved.
- A class that could cleanse themselves of the infection so they usually weren't dying every few minutes at least up until the last day when the infection occurred quickly (less than a minute from what I recall), and its resistance to cleanse was nearly 100%.
- Some kind of masochist who enjoyed being inconvenienced for an entire week.

I enjoyed the event for a few hours and then just got bored with it. It wasn't so much the lack of quests to do, I just spent a lot of time in Instances trying to find gear for some of my alts. It was more the "every time I take a wrong turn in the world I get jumped by a level 70" when I was level 30.
I love world PvP, I really do (or did when it happened at any rate, BC sorta killed it). Raiding crossroads and having a massive horde counter-army show up was a ton of fun, and the battles in Hillsbrad had the potential to become full scale wars. But by the time the zombie event was over it was just monotonous for the most part. There were still a few great moments but mostly I just wanted it to end.
That said, a 24-48 hour yearly thing similar to the zombie event would be 100% fine in my book.

The invasion -was- fun for the first day or two, and then it started to get boring (for me), since 'kill a bunch of NPCs, maybe a lowbie or two, get killed by lvl 80 player' cycle got a little monotonous.
I wanted to level an alt, but I knew that would be impossible. What I decided to do instead was to get on my paladin and go out of my way to cleanse infected players / defend towns. And I would RP it out, even though my server is not an RP one. The sheer amount of rage generated from the kiddies who tripped out on griefing was hilarious, and it kept me entertained for the rest of that annoying week.
And these ragers were the sort to laugh about the griefing accusations in general channels / on the forums saying 'it's a once in a lifetime event, enjoy it!'. I was enjoying it. By playing the good guy. :)
The tears of ragers feed me :3

1.True. But most of the sweet zombie action took place in cities where not much questing is done.
2. I'm terrible at PVP so that's a no.
3. Nope
4. I didn't consider it an inconvenience. So what if the game is different for a week or so? If you take the game too seriously to not have fun exploding ghoul guts all over you need to talk a walk around the park and reconsider your priorities.
Well that's why I said "most players". There are some people, like yourself, who loved the event regardless. To each his own, but the event was still poorly implemented since the only way to avoid it was by logging out and not being able to play a game you're actively paying for is unacceptable.
Most events tend to keep new players out of the loop, but that's fine because at least they can go about the rest of the game normally. They simply can't participate in something designed specifically for their higher-level peers. This event crossed the line when it was forced upon people who couldn't have participated if they tried. Lowbies were two-shotted as their character and immediately two-shotted again when they came back as a zombie. I can more than see how being stuck in death limbo &*!@ed people off.
I had fun the first day or so, but after I was zombied out and found general progression impossible it started to grate on my nerves too. I never threw a @#$%^ fit over it, but it did make me wish Blizzard put a little bit more thought into the event.

Actually, there will be a new "zombie" event. There was a launch event for The Burning Crusade too (demons started to invade Azeroth), so there will be something similar for Cataclysm (though it'll probably not be as "fun" as the zombie invasion).

this was a problem. Quest-givers dying shouldn't have been a problem. People should have been having fun participating in the event instead of trying to quest and level. -.-
Every now and then someone who's never played WoW before actually sits down and starts playing. I pity the ones that join during an event like that, where everything is !@#$ed and they can't play the game properly and get a real feel for it. Because they'd probably uninstall it shortly after.
Case and point, if I were starting on WoW during Hallow's End and I was playing in Tirisfal Glade or Elwynn Forest, I would *not* have played more than ten minutes before turning that $%^& off, because the headless horseman was the single most annoying thing I had ever heard while questing EVER.

that wasn't pvp?
Do you not know what the term pvp means?
Player versus player
I'm perfectly fine with an npc ghoul invasion; npcs don't grief, pubescent boys do.

I personally did not enjoy the Zombie Invasion because I was still levelling my main at the time.
Maybe, if I hadn't been getting turned into a zombie every 5 minutes and being killed after that, I would have been able to get to 70 at some point during the event and actually participate in more ways than being rofl-fodder.
As it was, I made a BE alt and dinked around on her, because no-one seemed to care enough to hit Eversong and Ghostlands.
