Repair keeps the economy from inflating. If you're taking more durability loss than you getting compensated for doing whatever you're doing then you should find something else to do.

It would work well:
lets say it costs 50 gold a repair on items so a crafter's repair should be half that price
it costs 1 heavy borean leather per item to repair so in total for all items it should be about 25 gold worth of leather
In fairness Blacksmiths should only be able to repair what they specialise in ie weopon smith armour smith so they don't have that big of a market to them selves
and engineers can repair bows and guns

Given that guilds will be able to spec for heavily-reduced repair bills, I don't know that this is a valid concern for Blizzard anymore.

I'd make some repair kits available for different professions. Just like armor kit you'd have to improve them in order to be able to repair higher lvl gear.

How about add in vendor bought materials to repair with, that way the repair is the same, if not more, however, it can be done anywhere.
It reduces inflation, and adds a cool new tool for crafting professionals.
