I think the United States needs to stop worrying about the governments of other countries and take care of the issues plaguing its own country.
This This This This This This
When have we EVER meddled in the affairs of another nation without it backfiring?
Nazi Germany... Soviet Union... Gulf War... there are like... a dozen examples. Unless you ignore them because you are closed minded peace spouting lemming of a hippie.

Seriously , i think that we all agree that invading Africa and whatnot would be a really bad idea , with more harm than good it would do anyway you put it.
Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes... a thousand times YES! We all agree on that. ZOMG! YES!
That isn't the point of this topic. The point is to discuss the implications of such an action, negative and positive.
Are you seriously going to come in here every other page and tell us this same thing over and over? Try putting some thought into the situation and theorizing about how certain countries would react... talk about the economic impact. Read through some people's posts... there are some very inciteful ones here.

I'm hoping you meant insightful. Come on, MyTie; I'm the one juggling three languages, what your excuse? Inciteful would mean they are prone to creating fights... not well informed and knowledgeable.A spelling error?
So. I propose a meaningful discussion about the implications of an intercontinental war in modern times. Instead all I get is "MyTie is crazy" and "MyTie has bad spelling". This forum used to be very good at debating the finer points of deep ideas and an educational exchange of dialog. Instead we have come to nit pick eachother and petty insults.
I have seen 3 or 4 meaningful posts in the last 4 pages of trash. If people don't start putting effort into their posts I will abandon this thread.

Yes. My misuse of the word 'inciteful' is much more interesting than the topic I presented in the OP.

I actually think that MyTie was wrong as far as the president being able to declare war on another country all by himself. I am pretty sure that there are many channels that he would have to go through before he would be able to declare war. It's not as easy for him to just push a button, or point and click, to start a war.
Nice post!
You are right in the part that I quoted. I should have been more specific. The president can do whatever he wants for 60 days before he has to start withdrawing military forces when not given permission. So, in essence the president can bombard any foreign country he wants for two months with not a single person's permission. Read this:
The War Powers Act of 1973 is a United States federal law providing that the President can send U.S. armed forces into action abroad only by authorization of Congress or if the United States is already under attack or serious threat. The War Powers Resolution requires that the president notify Congress within 48 hours of committing armed forces to military action and forbids armed forces from remaining for more than 60 days then a further 30 day withdrawal period, without an authorization of the use of military force or a declaration of war.
Edit: You can demolish a lot in two months.

Ok, fine....
But just because he
can
, does it mean he
should
?AgreedI also think that these "hypothetical" scenarios don't really make good debate topics. But that is my opinion, and you know what they say about those.....Well, you do bring up good points.
Answer this for me: If the US were to fight a really mean dirty war and take over Africa, forcing its residence into labor and industry, contributing to a further war effort, and then eventually marching on the entire middle east, they would have an argueably easier time with that war than if they hadn't first taken Africa. If the US controled the middle east, Africa, and North America, it could stand a fighting chance of taking over the world.
Disclaimer: MyTie doesn't agree with this scenerio. He is simply proposing it for the sake of discussion.

Ya, and in taking over Africa and the Middle East, the number of allies shrinks down considerably. Not to mention that we would probably be kicked out of the UN. The more we would conquer, the more we spread ourselves thin, thus leaving us more open to attacks by the countries that we haven't taken over.
Also... to control North America we would still have to take over Canada and Mexico.... I didn't see your plan for that anywhere.
All these hypothetical situations are leading me to a huge /facepalm.
EDIT: And besides, forcing the current residents would undoubtedly lead to civil uprising. Kind of like the Rebel Alliance against the Galactic Empire. Look who won that...
Star Wars citeation and a '/facepalm' not-with-standing....
Very good. Our alliances would shrink within hours. Countries all over would condemn us and we would be catapulted into WWIII.
So... is there any way that we CAN take over the world? Maybe peacefully? What would be some of those ways?

ok...
What about the UN? Could the UN ever gain enough power to dictate the policies of another country?
