Some warriors don't like being bubbled because it actually does reduce their rage; I usually just stop bubbling them if they ask me to.

As far as I know (never played a warrior or priest seriously), getting hit with Power Word: Shield on them does not generate ANY rage. A warrior relies on getting hit rather than big damage to generate rage when tanking, and I imagine constantly shielding a warrior makes it very hard for him to generate rage, and thus threat.
PW:S is best saved as a quick spell to save someone if a heal won't rescue them in time. This is just my vague knowledge speaking though, as a Paladin my own "bubble" generally makes other people /whine.

Shielding a warrior or a bear druid means they get minimum rage while the shield holds - like you need mana to heal, they need rage to tank. Reflective shield does make up for some aggro holding, but you shouldn't shield the tank all throughout the fight and especially not at the beginning of the fight. Suggest you use shield just in case of emergencies - your strategy may work in low lvl 5 men instances, but as soon as you hit some of the end-level dungeons (let's not even mention raids) your healing style will almost certainly cause some ppl to overaggro and wipe the group.

Paladins don't care quite so much, but the less damage they take, the less mana they get back from spirtual attunement, so bear it in mind.
We get mana from Spiritual Attunement when we get healed. More damage = more healing on us needed = more mana regen. It's a rather strange balance, hence why on single target raid bosses things get tricky for a paladin tank.

Was this a PUG?
Although I am not the original posted, it is safe to assume a yes, by reading what he/she wrote.

When I was leveling my priest, I got into the habit of throwing up PW:Shield before I threw out a heal or renew in situations where the health bar was dwindling. One of the people I grouped with regularly was a prot-specced warrior, and he didn't like when I would bubble him because he could not gain sufficient rage when he wasn't taking damage.
In situations like that, I will still bubble if I need to mitigate damage long enough to throw out a heal in cases where he would have died before my heal went off without the bubble. However, I try not to bubble warriors when they ask. It may come off like they are telling you how to do your job, but in the end you are enabling them to acquire rage so they can perform their jobs and keep the repair bill low for everyone. :)

Best not to bubble the tank - no matter what is tanking.
And you don't know if he has 70's that raid regularly and actually DOES know about your class.
But don't bubble the tank. They need the rage, not to mention you run the the risk of mobs losing aggro on him and taking off after other players that can't take the damage.
If you feel the need to bubble anyone, bubble yourself or one of the dps'ers. Not the tank.
I would say that there are situations where bubbling the tank is not only acceptable, but preferred to the alternative. :)

I agree with you, but those times are situational and hopefully few and far between. I can see a tank being shielded if the group is near wipe, the mob is almost down, and the tank is about to die. Shield and heal so you don't wipe, but keep in mind that now you have a bit more aggro and he's going to take time to generate rage again.

I think the general things I prefer when tanking (druid) as far as shielding goes are if I:
Don't get pre-shielded. I almost ALWAYS click that off.
Don't get shielded early on in the fight.
Outside of that, if you want to shield me instead of heal me once I've established my threat supremacy, that's cool :).

Paladin tanks don't use rage.
