I haven't been in the military, but I have done community service, and I do it because it makes me feel good knowing I helped the community, NOT BECAUSE I WANT PEOPLE TO THANK ME OR PRAISE ME.
You proved my point by saying you don't want to be in the military because you're not being praised for your actions.
Oh no... no no no... this is NOT the same thing.
Imagine for a moment that you lived to do community service. I'm not talking about friday nights. I'm saying that it completely enveloped your life. You live, you sleep, you eat, you work, you rest, you do EVERYTHING while doing community service. Now imagine that the community service can at any moment take your life. Not that you have much life, because your so busy doing community service that you can't have a family, or get a good profitable carreer going, or hang out with friends. Imagine the community service is gunfighting with drug dealers or something. Now imagine that on your way to work, the community you are in protecting, says stuff like "I don't care if you die", and they spit on you. You could die at any moment, and THEY DON'T CARE. You're right. You have never been in the military. You have no idea what it is like. You have no idea what it takes out of a person. You should learn humility and appreciation for those that risk it all for you.
pfffft... community service... idiot
Edit: if they didn't praise me... so what... but they shouldn't readily insult me.

Well, then you shouldn't have joined the military if you care so much about what other people think. Most people look down upon janitors and yet they still do their job, because most of them don't care what people think of them.

If you do not realize how ridiculous what you are saying is by now, then I will not take the time to explain it to you.

Yes, you risk death, but if you're risking death because you want praise, you don't deserve it. I don't admire people with Martyr Complex. I admire those who do the right thing because its the right thing to do.

When did I say I wanted praise? I just said I didn't want to be insulted.
Example:
You decide you want to donate a kidney to someone because you think it is the right thing to do. You go into the room for surgery. The person recieving the donation walks up and slaps you in the face, and explains that you are doing the wrong thing, then spits on you. Then that person lays down on the table, ready to recieve your organ.

This is the exceptionally vast majority of the military.
No... he doesn't see that. Maybe in janitors and people who do community service... but people who volunteer to sacrifice thier lives in the military are just stupid...

Alright, considering that example I can understand what you're saying now. Yeah, I don't agree with insulting someone for being in the armed forces, that's just wrong. However, I'm just saying they're don't automatically get my respect, just like most other people.

A lot of people don't automatically deserve my respect. However, if they died doing something that I recieve benefit from, then they get respect, whether they were forced or volunteered.
