with hit and expertise u are shooting for special caps.
6.5% expertise and 315 hit (with no IFF or Spriest)
This just ensures that ur specials will not miss, it is highly reccomended that u obtain these stats as a mutilate rogue however the decision is still up to u to do what is best and most enjoyable for the time u play.
To me, a smooth rotation, and knowing that every piece of energy i spend will go towards causing damage makes me feel better.
I pulled 4800dps on patch 10 last night (PUG group and got the 3min achievement) and I am hit exp capped. Last time i checked 4800>4200 so get expertise capped and for the love of god 315 hit should be the highest any muti rogue attempts to go (9%).

Here's a game you can play.
Figure out your average mutilate damage.
figure otu hoew many mutilates you miss in a naxx run (recount will tell you)
multiply igure 1 by figure 2.
Last raid i did 1133 mutialtes, and had 6 parried, and 5 missed becasue i forgot to eat my dinner before one pull. that's 22k damage missed out of 16.2 million - or out or 0.1%.
You actually got parried? That means you're doing it wrong. Always, always,
always
attack from behind where the mobs can only dodge your attacks.
Mut rogues care about expertise first and hit rating second because with 26/26 expertise and 98 hit (5/5 precision included) you can guarantee that your special attacks will always land, and you will have a much more effective and sustained rotation. IMO, nothing was more frustrating as a Mut rogue than having your envenom get dodged, and then having to waste combo points on putting SnD up instead of getting it for free.
The reason why we go for a slightly higher hit rating than the base specials cap is because of poison damage. The increased chance to apply poisons when it procs outweighs most other stats, as well as the fact that you'll be far more likely to have a full 5 stacks of DP up on the target.
Expertise and hit rating give consistency, which IMO is far more important to a raid than getting lucky and being able to pull only 3K one night and 4K the next.

5 parries over a 5 hour uludar run swapping between combat and mutilate that's an average of 1 per hour...... you've been to uludar right ?Does the fact that it's Ulduar make a difference? Does swapping between combat and mut make a difference? Not really... A parry is still a parry.
Srsly... you have to be perfect at all times. =P
On a (real) serious note, I'm confused as to how your mutilates actually missed, given precision and your hit rating. AFAIK, none of your special attacks should have missed.

forgive me if i am wrong.... but one is not ALWAYS behind the boss... parry happens. Even the cap leaves you some tiny percentage that can effect your hits/dodges/parries.

Mut rogues do not prioritize HR or Expertise.
It's 99 HR to get special capped with Precision.
Stop keeping rupture up 100% and use Envenom more often, this is purely from my personal experience.

The reason we go above 99 HR is because BiS gear pre-ulduar gives crap loads of hit.No... the reason we aim for slightly higher hit rating is because it helps with poison applications. In case you hadn't noticed, Poisons make up about 30-35% of your overall damage.
Poisons are a proc on a weapon hit. If the weapon misses, you get no chance for a poison application. If the weapon hits, the poison has a chance to proc procs, and then it has it's own hit/crit/miss table. Reaching the poison cap means that for each proc, the miss is pushed off the table.
Too low of hit rating is a double miss.
Mut rogues do not prioritize HR or Expertise.
It's 99 HR to get special capped with Precision.Umm... we kinda do. It's been far less of a concern now since Mutilate is cheaper on energy and you're probably saving energy less, but having an envenom get dodged sucks.

Why stop keeping rupture up? Why not keep it up
and
Envenom up?

and
Envenom up? 30-35? lolno.
We are'nt prioritizing HR or Expertise. Whatever works best is what we prioritize.
My point is losing a SnD due Envenom got dodged, you seriously need to rethink and use Envenom earlier. Or more often.
