Everyone seems to aspire to join the Navy, or Army, or some armed force, and typically I'm the only one saying that's all bull and that I want to get the hell out of this country.
RAmen, brotha.

I actually don't ever remember registering for the draft.
Laihendi has heard of people's parents doing it for their kids before (sometimes unwittingly...) and he has also heard of people being registered without ever having remembered registering.
But seriously there's no need for a draft.

In my honest opinion, go Navy. Air Force is kind of the laughing stock of most of the major branches, not counting the Coast Guard or National Guard (coming from my brother's mouth, Navy aviation engineer). Army will probably only do one thing, even if you score high, and that is making you a bullet sponge. I don't like my Queggy filled with holes, I prefer him whole. You just can't go wrong with Navy, unless you are deathly afraid of boats and being at sea.
As for "lolwut?" special forces, such as Navy Seals... yeah, good luck with that. My dad knew a guy who barely made it into the Navy Seals and he could run half a mile on his hands on the track (my dad has never lied to me, why start there?).
I'm personally going Navy out of high school, try to get my arse into the aviation engineering field like my brother. He loves it and really enjoys it, and you can also go to college and join the Navy to become a Navy pilot. Have you ever heard of an Air Force pilot landing on a small airstrip in the middle of an ocean? I think not.
Long story short, go Navy or go to college and get a good career if you can.
Oh, and Marines... well, they just turn you into a front line bullet sponge. Again, prefer my Quegster in one piece.
(My opinion)

I'm in the Navy, this is my professional opinion (no special forces are considered, it's purely vanilla-service):
Marines are generally the most valuable of our military services. From what I've seen, they're the most professional (even if the term is used loosely), and embody the core values of honor, courage, commitment.
Army is on the next wrung down, as they're kinda like the Marines, except the standards are more lax. I base this off of the fact that I have yet to see a fat Marine, but I've seen countless fat Army types.
The Navy is a good compromise between the Army and the Air Force. You actually do some work in the Navy (Army-like), and have a decent quality of life (Air Force-like). Remember this if you join, though: NAVY is an acronym for
N
ever
A
gain
V
olunteer
Y
ourself.
Air Force... There's a saying amongst all the other branches: "...always on the golf course." Though you get a ribbon just for completing boot camp, and your quality of life is awesome.
And to build on what Skyfire said, yeah, you'll wanna go officer for sure, because they get paid far better, and by default get a great deal more "respect". Though as far as the Navy goes, you can always go a couple different routes to become an officer after you've tested the waters as an enlisted person (which requires less of a commitment from the get-go), and then you get even
more
money for being prior-enlisted. So you'd be an O-1E, instead of an O-1.
Hope that's been insightful.

Tyristrasz, that's a very good composition of the major military branches. Although, I don't really think the ROTC buggers should get that bonus from joining their little "club." You do work out, have inspections, do a physical test, and suddenly you get ahead of the other recruits? Lame.

Gee Laihendi wishes he were a man, then he'd join the Navy :[

Well, you can join now. Homosexuals in the military? Oh, joy... Navy has that stereotype about 'em already.

I was in the Norwegian Communication-batallion. That was one year of alot of fun. Think of it as "camping in the woods" with a military vehicle, rifles, hotdogs and the occational "russian hitchhiker that just happens to be positioned close to our location".

Also, this should give you a taste of the Navy. It's a series called "Hey, Shipwreck", and it's very accurate to the way things really are in the Navy.
...Except that we're not in space. On space ships. Other than that, right on target!
Hey, Shipwreck: The Fourth Episode
.
The recruiting ad is particularly good.
