I do have to say hunters are a very strange class. It gets hard at the beginning to know what you can and can't use, what is a hunter item, and what isn't a hunter item. Because of wing clip and raptor strike, some hunters need on meele weapons with procs because they think it will proc off of one of those two. Takes a while to pick up on, for me it did atleast.
I used
Linken's Sword
all the way to Outland before I realized that I don't
want
to be in a situation where it might proc: if it procs, I'm in melee, and melee is BAD.

"I thought you guys would want me to disenchant it, but since you don't I'll keep it."
And on the people having druid staves, my brother was running as an extra with a guild in Kara, he was the only enchanter, they said he could keep half the void crystals. He had two and they wanted him to DE T's Stranglestaff. He kept it and shows it off from time to time. I'm leveling a druid right now, so it pisses me off.

Strat Live, pre-TBC, trying to get
Hammer of the Grand Crusader
for healing gear.
Group is me as a tank (in blues), and then a mage, a rogue, and a resto druid - all from the same guild, all almost full Tier4.
We make right for Balnazzar, skipping Wiley, with plenty of wipes because the group seems to think epics make everything easier (they do, yes, but we're 4-manning this and they're not even letting me get aggro before they start hitting things - they don't seem to know CC exists - and as I run around trying to get things under control, they constantly berate me for not shifting out of bear form to heal myself). We kill him, and the mace doesn't drop.
"Oh well" says I. "Do you mind if we go back and kill Wiley? He drops
Helm of the New Moon
which is a large upgrade for my healing gear."
Group says sure, let's go. So we go, with more wipes along the way, and kill Wiley. And the helm drops.
I'm overjoyed, because it's a huge upgrade over my no-healing-whatsoever helm (I never, ever saw
Insightful Hood
drop, and I was still a lot of turnins away from
Sanctified Leather Helm
).
I express my joy in /p, and roll need...
...only to see the other druid, wearing
Stormrage Cover
, also roll need.
I roll a 5, he rolls a 6. /cry
I ask in /p why the hell did he just roll need - figuring hey, before I lash out at him, I should check if he had a legitimate reason, even just wanting it for the spelldamage so he can kill things more easily outside of instances - and I get this:
"to wear outside of raids, it's cheaper to repair"
/facepalm

*sigh* this is about a hunter.
Now, I've played a hunter myself, and I would never find myself in such a situation like this.
The thing is. We're in, like, Steam Vaults, and this +spell-damage item drops. Think it was from the first boss. I was tank, so I couldn't care about it, and all of us had better gear. But still.
The hunter clicked need.
He clicked need for a spell-damage-item. (
http://wowhead.com/?item=27784
) That was the one.
Now, this got me curious. Why? Why? oh Why?
"improves my arcane shot". Right. I told him it didn't. He said it did. I told him that got changed a few patches back. He didn't say anything.
But. Doesn't matter. Our disenchanter won the roll anyway. *grin*

Well the reason wasn't that bad but..
Kamaei's Cerulean Skirt
drops from one rift keeper in BM and the rogue says "Need it on my priest alt". We wipe on the boss just seconds later and disband and I HS to Shattrath and after a few minutes i see him WTS it in trade. That's just wrong.

I'm a fire mage. Once, something dropped and I read "increases damage and healing by xx" and rolling need, beating the priest with a roll of 21.
Priest says "WTF?!?!?"
I said "what? ....oh."
It read "Increases healing done by xx" - I had just read it wrong. Genuine mistake.
The really stupid thing is I made exactly the same mistake AGAIN the other day in mana tombs, winning a blue cloak of healing off a boss, only this time I felt a bit guilty cos the priest seemed like a nice dude, so I gave him 50g as an apology and told him to treat himself to a nice blue off the AH.
I mean at the end of the day it's just a game really so whoTF cares.

I once had this happen while running two friends through SM Cathedral. One is a lvl 30 mage, the other is a lvl 39 paladin.
The famous Chapeau drops, and the mage is extremely happy. As he is celebrating his win, and I am congratulating him, my paladin friend rolls need too and WINS.
Mage: DUDE WTF U DIDNT NEED THAT! U HAVE MAIL, AND NEXT LVL PLATE!!!
Him: Your 9 levels too low, wth are you gonna do with it?
Since he was a "friend of guild" and the mage was an alt of one of the officers, and me being an officer myself, I made him fork up over half his gold or else he would get a /gkick.
He doesn't like me that much anymore, but atleast he learned his lesson!
What is wrong with you? There's nothing wrong with a paladin using that, and like he said, the mage couldn't use it for another 9 levels. He wasn't going to run SM again? Learn how classes work before you yell at them (and take their gold? WTF) for taking items they can use.
Actually, I made him fork over the gold to the mage, not me.
And actually, I have a paladin. Level 55 (almost 56) and quite nicely geared. If you knew sqwat about instances, you would know about the Icemantle Barbetute (or something like that) that drops off of the final boss in the next instance after SM Cathedral, Razorfen Downs. He is an easy boss, and most times I have ran it, it dropped. Argue that the Helm from Razorfen Downs isn't a healing helm? This one isn't either.
The paladin was gimping his stats, and at the same time, ninjaing. So please, before screaming at me, research stuff around that level, just a wee bit. Thank you.
Not to troll but how can you compare a melee-based plate helm to a cloth "caster" helm without even considering spec? If it was a holy paladin who could use the Int to support his mana pool, then by all means I'd let the paladin take it over someone who's going to bank it for 9 levels. I don't even see how that is questionable unless we're talking about a ret paladin, here.

My experience. A blue 2 hander drops while I was running Manatombs.
Warrior: "Wow"
--he needs.
This warrior is the same warrior that told another member of the group to equip something that he needed because it was an upgrade. So that member immediately tells him to equip this blue 2 hander. Of course I was looking at whether he did, he did not. He even said, that he equipped/unequipped it fast, you didn't see it, its your fault. At this point, I already knew we were dealing with a ninja that wanted to sell it on the AH. 2 of the members leave group, I followed soon after.

this just happened the other night in heroic shadow labs. we had a shadow priest that came from anothr server. anyways, we down Murmur, a primal nether drops, everyone passes but th priest hits need/greed. one of the officers from the guild was in the group and he automatically kicks her out of the guild. her reason, on her old server they just greed nethers. we like to pass then discuss who really "needs" it
Post by
Redsniper
Well tbh I do get why she did need, if you guys are so strict about it you may put it in your rules of conduct (or something like that) In more guilds/realms all greed and you may need if you give a good reason (before checking need oc)
If you cannot discuss it in the time it takes for the timer goes of and you pass you have bigger problems then a nether :)

today i have seen a lot of hunter bashing and i can see why some are good reasons and others are not, but as said before, do not generalize, there is a person controlling that hunter who probably has alts who are just as dumb.
that said let me tell you how the alliance got so popular( at least on Darkspear as i seen) . 8-13 year olds mostly choose hunter because they get pets AND have pretty good armor (as opposed to the warlock) so they think that they are more effective. when they make childrens mistakes/tantrums/remarks/actions which end up ninjaing/wiping/pissing people off (whether its in vent or in chat) people dont invite them to guilds/parties anymore and label them ninja or other wise. they get pissed and switch sides.
that also being said, "For the (Maelstrom) Horde!"

Yeah, the whole pass and discuss afterward just opens yourself to ninjas, deliberate or not. Just use the dice. There's plenty of time.
