we admit that it is stealing
No, not everyone has. So don't try to say BS like that. And I never said that illegal = bad, I've said stealing = stealing, and some people have tried to argue its not.

Again, with the exception of kurx, nobody has argued that it's not illegal by definition, and yes there is rationalization which is what you will find in any debate that brings in the illegal side vs. the legal side. Furthermore we know that you know that it is illegal so you can go ahead and move past that and give a legitimate reason for not doing so, as I don't believe that it is anywhere near similar to killing someone or stealing 5% of their spine and that was just horrible debating right there.
Not debating, I just want someone to picture something grotesque in association with 5% so they stop throwing around that number and saying that it doesn't have any meaning. And what I've done is merely say "Ok if you feel its acceptable to cross the line, would you mind if someone else crossed the line somewhere else?" Just saying, you can't really say "Stealing is a bad thing... except when I steal from someone else", because then someone else might say to his or her self "Killing is a bad thing... unless its me killing someone else". And then you're dead.

Its not even moderately similar though, and going out to the most extreme level just makes the entire arguement look silly. For Example, if you were to steal 5% of my income that would be about 25 bucks (per 2wk paycheck), well, that's not so horrifying as someone taking 5% of my spine or killing me. That comparison is from a nice black and white (retarded) standpoint. If you aren't debating...get out of the debate thread.
Well in medieval times if you stole from someone your hands would be chopped off, so I wouldn't call it totally extreme.

Even big H's law (eye for an eye) makes more sense than your extremist attitude. Actually, I am a fan of Hammurabi's law.
If any one steal cattle or sheep, or an ass, or a pig or a goat, if it belong to a god or to the court, the thief shall pay thirtyfold; if they belonged to a freed man of the king he shall pay tenfold; if the thief has nothing with which to pay he shall be put to death.
yeah that's not just as extreme.

If someone would not have bought the files in question otherwise, there really isn't a loss of sale. There isn't any lost in profits from the transport of the media to this non paying user because it's obviously not the company that's putting it up on p2p networks. That said, a big reason people wouldn't buy music, is because they
can
get it for free.
If I go and steal a watch that I did not plan on buying, would I be able to defend myself in court by saying that there was no loss in sale, since I did not actually plan to buy?
Depends, did you steal the watch from a store or from a person who bought the watch?
