Something that alot people deal with.
Random DPS: Heal Me plz!
Me: I'm elemental
Random DPS: HeaL ME!
Me: ....
You have been removed from the group
Not so much the DPS asking an elemental to heal them, but a lot people expect that everyone else will serve to help them top the meters.
If you're in a group with 2 caster DPS and 1 melee, the melee expects WF totem, even though there are more casters.
If the mob has a whirlwind or an AoE effect, people tend to stand their and take it so they don't lose DPS.
If DPS have self-heals, they tend not to use them, because of the cost of mana or GCD or whatever reason. (While on most fights DPS should just do damage, on fights where DPS isn't important they should be more worried about survival).
DPS tend to yell at you if you let them die to save either the tank, yourself, or more people (e.g. get off a chain heal to prevent AoEs from killing your group instead of spam single-target heals on the DPS who pulled aggro)
Basically, their playstyle is Patchwerk. On any fight that is not patchwerk, they make everyone else's lives harder or get a repair bill (which does make people's lives harder). I've also noticed that a lot of people (and you get more of them in 25-mans than in heroics) will get very impatient. They don't trust the RL to say stuff, so they say it instead.
In my raiding grp in the guild we do tell the shaman to use heroism sometimes but we only do that because it will help in the fight. Some fights are intense dps race so saying herosim rarely matters is really outdated. We do not say it all times allthou, the rl just writes or say use herosim and it is all. Using herosim on trash is a big waste imo:)
The totems are a shamans job, we usually just ask in the beginning that the shaman uses a certain totem bcs out grp is melee or caster friendly. So we get more dps out of it, also reminds during certain boss fights if they could use a posion totem or something. In the big raid 25 man the shaman leader just sorts it out or another class leader in a whisper.
See, what you're talking about is different from what we're QQing about. Let's just dump this into a 5-man. Your situation appears to be:
Tank: Cast BL please!
<Shaman Casts BL>
Our QQ is:
Tank: Cast BL
DPS1: Cast BL
DPS2: Cast BL
<Shaman Casts BL...10 seconds go by>
DPS3: Cast BL
Basically, if one person is running things, it's cool to give a friendly reminder. It's also cool for people to set stuff up before a raid (e.g. with 3 resto shamans, coordinating earth shields) or to make suggestions to the other players in a constructive fashion. But when people spend a whole raid trying to stretch their epeen by getting top damage and by bashing everyone's playstyle or demanding everything out of a class, that's different.
Although I must say, when you've been crying for buffs for 5 minutes and yet of the 6 pallies in the raid all you got is might (when the only shamans are resto or ele)...then it's ok to have everyone bash the pally.

Ask: Do you do more than 2k dps? Secondly I'm not sure I want to join a raid with a raidleader that doesn't know most classes on their backbone. Oh wait. It's naxx10. It's not like it's hard. Unless you bring total morons in blue/greens you're gonna be ok.
Its hard for me to tell what someone of another class should be capable of by stats alone. Classes are different, and some players in full T7 can only do 1400 DPS because they're retarded. That's why I dont ask for stats - I armory them and look at their gear or I ask for their output.

As a resto shaman I object to the idea that it's perfectly ok for the dps to deliberately stand in all the bad stuff all the time because, hey, I can chain heal. Sometimes it's ok (Loken for example), but mostly I really do need those idiots to GTFO the bad stuff.
Although my biggest peeve is people telling me CH doesn't have a range. Yes it does. Get in it.

As far as the whole self-healing thing goes, here's how I see it:
Everyone needs to do their job. In general, DPS do damage only because it makes runs go quicker, helps the healer's mana pool by shortening fights, and helps with specific timers (such as enrage timers or the gargoyle stoneskin in plague quarter). However, on fights where beating a timer isn't as important, it's very useful to have the DPS that CAN heal (even if it's just a self-heal) heal themselves or patch up other players. However, the goal is for them to help the healers if the healers need it, not for them to do the job of healing as well.
However, more important than helping the healers by covering some of their job, is helping the healers by doing simple things. Attacking Ymirron while he has bane is something that makes it a lot harder for the healer. Standing in the fire or pulling aggro off the tank are things that make it hard for the healer. If everyone does that job well, healers should be fine on their own. But it's still nice on some fights to have some backup heals...my guild's first time downing 10-man Saphiron we had an enhance shaman nerf his DPS by using MW on CH, made it a lot easier (especially b/c blizzard was basically a magnet for the melee), and on my DK I was spamming Death Strike, had our retadins change to a less-DPS seal that doesn't rape themselves as well as using their instant FoLs...made it a lot easier for our healers (didnt help either that 2 of our healers combined were less useful than our 3rd healer).

Tank: *sniffs air* What's that smell?... WHY AM I SMOKING?
Me: That would be my method of healing... would you rather the electroshock method? *smile*
Tank: *cowering* No thanks... how about you heal the enemy?
Me: Cool that's my specialty *wink*
ROFL, Brilliant! ^_^
My peeve is dps pulling when the tank should be pulling. People that do not use threat meters... use one to learn how much threat you do in initial burst. wait till the tank is at least that much ahead before you engage.
Agreed some fights that might not work, but THINK. Shame if they wait 3secs they gonna loose 100dps overall... oh woe is me...
