Vernadris, 50 years was just an rough guess, I do not how long it takes for the planet to "breathe". But once again I feel I need to stress that breathing point. Also, this planet was not designed to last forever. Sooner or later their will be the apocalypse, and then there will be the second Earth. It's not like the planet is meant to last for a kajibillion years.
Earth's fate is precarious. As a red giant, the Sun will have a maximum radius beyond the Earth's current orbit, 1 AU (1.5×1011 m), 250 times the present radius of the Sun.
The idea of the apocalypse and "second" earth is very Christian/Religious view- not based upon fact and ignores the past earths which over the past 4.5 billion years gave us the resources and beauty we have today.
Earth's age= 4.5 billion years
Estimated death of the Earth/Sun= 5 billion years from today
Estimated Human time on earth to date= 5000 years
Estimated death of Humans on Earth= I don't think too many people envision humans in the 31st century- why is that?
Humans have spent centuries studying what caused the extinction of dinosaurs with the very real view that the "world" for us could end just as suddenly. What we need to focus on is not bringing upon the extinction of the human race sooner do to our own poorly and spiritually designed ideas that the planet is our to rape and pillage. Many religious people this country support the depletion of the resources and destruction of the planet to bring the apocalypse early.
EDIT: This post killed thread.

This is not the proper path for this thread, Jaspirac.
Much of what you said in your last paragraph is a very generalized and error-ridden view.

I know- my apologies... Generalizations are just that and although error-ridden it is not entirely false.

Jaspirac I have my views of the Earth's age and you have yours, we obviously aren't going to agree on that and because of that our views on "climate change" won't line up. The climate view all depends on the other. You say that the idea of Apocalypse/Second Earth is just a view and not based on fact, but I could say the same for your ideas.
Is there no one out there that cares to support me on my side? Besides Parezell, but he hasn't posted lately . . . :(

And so it shall be... I've put forth my view and discussed your question of climate change. You yourself mentioned that the Earth breaths in and out- that makes it a living thing- born at some point in the past and humans should not destroy it or they will destroy themselves. I will leave it at that.

I'm not saying not to try to live better lives that's always good. What I'm saying is that I don't believe that we affect the planet as much as you think. There's nothing wrong with trying to live "green".

actually I would disagree here, we are having quite a negative impact on the planet but thats more due to expanding populations and reckless distruction of wildlife than melting ice caps
Yeah, I'm not saying we don't affect it negatively at all. I'm just saying we probably don't affect it as much as some people think.

Also Venus is poor example (as is Mars) of a green house effect. Simple because there circumstances, both astronomically and biologically are different to our own
Sure Venus is a different planet and all but it's atmosphere creates the very definition of the "green house effect" due to an over abundance of CO2 and trapping the heat inside the atmosphere. Its science... geesh- we learn about about our planet by studying other planets that are similar and near by. Same way we learn about anything. If we decide to dismiss science the world would go back to being flat, with the sun revolving around it- among other stupid beliefs.
