Level more alts, and get
The Bread Winner on all of them (Relatively easy to do if you complete
Loremaster of Northrend). Make sure at least one is an Enchanter, and mail him any BoE greens you find.
When you include vendored quest rewards and Enchanting mats sold on AH, its actually a lot more than 10k gold, and its not very hard to do. Most people stop questing when they ding 80, but the quest rewards DOUBLE at 80, you can rake in heaps of gold very quickly by questing out remaining zones once you ding 80. Having mining / skinning / herbalism etc won't hurt either, although leveling these up to be useful in Northrend can slow down the process quite a lot. (That is to say, the process of leveling an alt as quickly as possible)

"This topic" is out of date and horribly inaccurate by today's standards.
Want gold? Quest and do dailies. You can do 25 dailies per day (imagine that!), and you can do infinite amount of quests per day. Like Heckler said, questing in Northrend will yield RIDICULOUS amounts of gold. I've made 5k in two weeks by setting apart 2 hours a day to do 20 Icecrown dailies. I do normal quests whenever I can (when I'm not raiding or running heroics) as well.
The AH is still a VIABLE method of making gold, however it requires some patience, skill and ability to farm. Dailies are much faster and guaranteed money; and aside from other players on a PvP realm there are no interferences unlike farming eternals and whatnot. The AH takes alot of practice as well, and you always have that filthy undercutter undercutting you by 1 silver on your Frostweave Bag Auctions (/me is guilty as charged).
If you are restricted to Old Skool Azeroth (I was all of January), mining Thorium is a GREAT way to make money. Everybody needs it in ridiculous amounts to level Jewelcrafting and Blacksmithing, and nearly nobody farms it. Best place to get it is Sillithus, inside of the hives... You want to be level 55+ to do this though, the mobs are tough if you are around their level.
Outland is still a good place for money as well... Primals aren't worth crap, but Fel Iron and other ores are. Herbs are probably just as needed, I've never had an herbalist so I wouldn't know. I do know that Greater Planar Essence is worth a ton on most servers right now (10-12 gold a piece!), so DE'ing those Outland greens can be quite profitable. Arcane Dust not so much, but you can still make a pretty penny or two off of it. The netherweave market is kinda in the gutters right now, what with everyone being able to farm large amounts of cloth in small amounts of time...
Northrend is the most valuable place to farm right now (who would have guessed), but you need to know WHAT to farm. On MY server, frostweave isn't worth much (3-7g per stack), but other things are worth alot (Particularly CRAFTED items). Enchanting mats are selling fairly well, but expect ALOT of competition. Ore is selling, frozen orbs are selling, specialty cloth is selling... In Northrend EVERY profession has great money making potentials TBH.
Gold is out there, just waiting for you to claim it... Open your eyes, and untold riches will be yours.
