Now boys play nice.
I will begin updating this to 3.1 as soon as we get the patch here in europe. God i hate having to wait another day.
So until then please try to refrain from posting "ZOMGOMGOMGOMG THAT BUILD IS NOT CORRECT!".
The actual guide part will not change much only glyphs, talents and some tips, tricks and techniques.

The progress to being up to date with 3.1:
Talents
PeeveePee
Tips and tricks
Techniques
Gear
Glyphs
I will
strike
the points as i finish them.
This doesnt mean it's final. Everything is subject to change.

this item came to mind for things that might be under the gearing section simply because its alot of stats that rarely go away EVER.
Awesome trinket!
I made sure to add it to the gear section.
P.S. The first item above level 40! Gratz ;p
P.s.2
I've read through the entire guide and updated all of the sections that needed updating for 3.1.
Was mostly talent build and glyphs that needed changing.
If you see something that isn't up to date or wrong dont be afraid to say so.

Another item I would like to point out for you, a ring:
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=34227
It's a rare drop from SM, but I found three of them in the same day. It's great for a wide variety of things from helping you pull, to helping you back up and heal if things get too tough, to preventing humanoids from running when you don't want them to. Requires level 29.
Also for a good trinket:
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=10455
An extra 50 Nature damage every 5 seconds is pretty strong in any pull you're doing, and its AoE is about the same size as Consecrate. Quest requires level 48 to get it.

The epic ring from SM is not extraordinary for AoE grinding. It has 10 stam but that's about it. The proc is very unpredictable and mostly useless since we dont want to keep distance to our attackers. On top of that it's extremely hard to get a hold of. If you got 3 in one day i'd pass it off as extreme luck.
The trinket from ST though is very good and i've added it to the list, 450 extra damage isnt to be passed away easily.

Extraordinary? No, not really. To say that it's useless is going a bit far considering I've got one of a level 52 pally right now that's been using it since 29 and still getting great use out of it. You're correct in saying that we don't want to keep our distance from our attackers, but with a 3 second freeze we're aren't keeping our distance for long. As I said, it's use comes in pulling larger groups that are spread out, stepping back for a second to heal, or for preventing humanoids from running away from you.
While having melee-only humanoids running away to bring more melee-only targets to you is a good thing, having them run off to bring spellcasters to agro against you is a quick way to get yourself killed. If you don't mind them running away, then again it's only a 3 second freeze so it's not hard to just leave the guy alone and let him pull some friends over to you, but when you're in an area with both melee and casters in it you have a potential life saver. It's use does diminish somewhat when you get ranged attacks besides Judgment made available to you, but like I said I'm still using it at 52.
Another note about the ring is that it can freeze anything that hits you including spell casters and bow/gun users. It's your list, so of course you can do whatever you want with it. I'm talking from experience using the ring though, not from finding a ring and thinking it's cool. My wife also found the ring on her Prot Pally and used hers until level 48 when she replaced it with one from her Jewelcrafting profession (not sure which one off hand).

first item above lvl 40? last time i checked the epic quality guantlets from wsg started at 40 (only reason why i meantioned them is because of how hard it is to find decent guantlets from any source until you hit outland). The boots from ab are more of a personal preference but i always seem to get the marks for them before i even ever get close to the 20 marks for the bracers unless its late at night and we get a good streak of wins going.
First item below level 40 in my guide ;p
Edit2: guess you mean first gear for lvl 40. i will also do some testing once i get more stam as to whether or not
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=10455
is affected by sp, if i still have it. i personally don't care for it as much because the 15 minute cooldown makes me see it as being all too usefull.
If you could inform me on how it scales with SP or if it does at all that would be great! And i have to agree the 15 min CD is kind of a turn off but trinkets are short pre-BC.
Edit3: hopefully last one, anyways, since we are more based off consecrate and holy shield for damage why put 3 points into crit when you could put those 3 points into ardent defender for the lvl 70 build. im also curious what made you decide to drop stoicism completely from the build.
I didnt spend points into Ardent Defender because at the point you'll be getting it (lvls 41-44) you're pulling too many mobs if you're dropping as low as 35% in a fight and thus you'll have too much downtime because of healing/drinking between fights. And it will be of even less use later on when your health rarely drops below 70% even when pulling groups of 10-15 mobs.
The 3% crit is because you'll be spending points in ret last (Heart of the Crusader will be lvls 68-70) and it's very usefull for HotR.
What made me drop Stoicism is that there is only 1 mob in the whole guide that has any kind of stun. And even then the stun is affected by DR (or atleast seems like it) soi found it that those points could be better spent elsewhere.
Ofcourse the build is not mandatory but it's the one i recommend using.

I never said the ring was useless but the proc is "kinda" (to quote myself) useless. And sure i had my level 19 boots on my paladin until it was 40-50+ because of the lack of a replacement. My point is that it is a proc, that lasts 3 seconds. The chances of it procing on the blow that will damage the mob enough through ret aura to make it flee are just ridicoulus. Sure i wont argue with it not being a nice ring cause it is. But seeing the options (
lvl 28
,
stam ver.
,
lvl 32
) and the availability of this ring it's nothing more than nice.
It still is 3 seconds that is:
3 tics of consecration.
2 GCD's
1.5 attacks from a mob

Would either of you have used the ring instead of
this
or
this
or
stam ver.
or
this
So in other words you could've replaced the ring at level 35. I would use my level 1 mace with 1.3? dps if i wouldn't have found a better replacement until i was 80 that doesnt make it extraordinary.

Great shield too
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=13375
Awesome i'll make sure to add it :)
Edit: I really appreciate all the help from everyone even though i might seem like a jerk and reject your item suggestions. But i have my specifications for extraordinary items and i pretty much judge items as i see them. Every bit of help is very much appreciated from everyone!

I am planning to level a pally by AoE grinding. What level can you start, and do it with general ease?

I will start the guide at level 30 since there is really no point in this before you get BoSanc.
You can start at level 30 and pull groups of 5-10 mobs at a time. At 40 you can do it with "ease" cause you got Holy Shield.

jerk no hardheaded yes. still, life goes on.

Nice guide so far, couple of items to chuck into the mix.. up to you whether they are good enough for your list of special gear tho'. I've tried to put them in order of level obtainable/useable, hope its not too confusing.
- Gigaflux
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=9492
drops from last boss in Gnomer (acts as a lightning sheild - buff stays on even after you take off the helm so get the buff up then switch to your standard helm)
- Central Core
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=9458
Last boss in Gnomer aswell
- Fist of Stone
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=17943
the mana returning equivalent of
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=10804
which you already have shown. Drops off Landslide in Mara (the giant fella) who coincidently drops a wicked Helm:
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=17734
so keep running Mara till ya get both :)
- Naglering
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=11669
drops from BRD the Golem Lord Argelmach
- Epix
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=11684
Drops off the emporer in BRD (Last boss) i have absolutely no idea how this would work with reckoning, but this could be an absolute gem for the Prot Pallie Grinder
- Trinket
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=11810
Drops in BRD off General Angerforge, tasty bit of mitigation and even more from the proc, whats not to love!
- Trinket 2
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=11815
Okay so maybe not the usual thing, as opposed to being a reflective effect or proc on taking dmg/being hit its when you are swinging away, however think of this in combination with reckoning and Ironfoe and you could be looking at some crazy HP/Mana returns.
- Libram
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=22400
Officially the lowest obtainable Libram in game, though the effect may appear small, it is free mitigation...
- Razor Fists
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=18326
Drops in DM East off the satyr Alzinn the Wildshaper.
Thats pretty much all i can think back to for when i was leveling my pallie. Might also be useful to show a link to all the types of sheild spike availible too. The top under 70 one is a recipe from Faction rep of a TBC faction, thus the number of crafters decreases dramatically. The Thorium one is perhaps rarer still so you may have to be stuck with Mithril for quite a while, i know i was at least.

So far i like what i see though and appreciate it very much cause the slacker i am i havn't actually added that much myself to the gear list.
Thanks again and expect to see it on the list by tomorrow afternoon.
