~Just added you, Interest.
By the way, I have all 18 starters. If anyone needs, just call, I'll breed one for you. It's actually easy to get this done with the GTS once you get at least 1 foreign (gen2-gen5) starter. People loking to have them actually post fair trades (not legendary ones).

So, I'm curious as to what IV training entails. I've never really done any sort of munchkining in Pokemon (I leave that up for things like WoW and Fallout).
However, you guys have gotten me interested.

However, you guys have gotten me interested.
It essentially takes a few mechanics as base (with gen 6, I'm not sure about previous since I've never tried to breed before):
Destiny Knot
If either parent has this equipped, 5 IVs will be transfered to the offspring. You do not know if it's from the female or male, but you can be SURE that 5 IVs will be passed.
Everstone
Everstone being held will preserve the nature to the offspring. So, if a parent (either sex) is holding Everstone and is Timid, ALL offspring will be Timid.
Power items
This items (Anklet, etc...) that you get from the battle Maison will make sure the corresponding stat will get transfered to the offspring from the parent holding this particular item.
Egg Moves
Egg moves will be passed down from either parent.
Transfering IVs from pokemon to pokemon
Any pokemon can pass his/her perfect IVs to another pokemon on the same egg group. When trans-species breeding, the female determines which kind of pokemon the offspring will be. This means that ANY male will be able to pass it's IVs to any female of the same egg group. In my case, I wanted a perfect Raichu, and had a perfect Charizard. I started by breeding Charizard (Male) with Nidoran(Female) until I got a satisfactory Male nidoran offspring (with the nature i wanted, which I also got from Charizard, by having him hold Everstone) (in my case, 5IV Nidoran Male). Than, I got a female Pikachu, and started breeding with the near flawless Nidoran to get better Pichu. When a better offspring showed (I started with a 0IV pikachu; say I got a 3 erfect IV Pichu as an offspring), I switched the worse offspring with the better one. Eventually, you tilt percntages favorably enough that you achieve 5IV pokemon very consistently, and can very rarelly score a 6IV pokemon.

My code is 1907-9556-9100. I have a LOT of 5IV pichu, and likelly some Charmander; I'll have to check, I forgot to actually drop 5IV charmander into a separate box, so I don't remeber which are 5IV.
Just added you. My number is 1650-2528-0861.

Also added. What are you looking for, in particular?

The 5IV Pichu you mentioned would be nice, will have some 5IV Litwicks to give you for it. Not today though, it's abysmaly late here, and I need to get me some sleep.

So, perfect means that it has the highest stats possible, with the right nature?

Sure, if you find me online, poke me with one of those "nice!" things or just go for the trade invite straight away, I'll know what it is. 'Night.

So, perfect means that it has the highest stats possible, with the right nature?
In short, that's correct, yes.
IVs are a number of set values that are given to a pokemon, one for each stat, at birth or capture. They cannot change. These values range from 0 to 31, and are just that: whatever number shows is how much will be added to that stat at level 100. a 17 Attack IV pokemon will have +17 Attack than a 0 Attack IV pokemon at level 100 - assuming that no nature effects are counted (nothing buffs or nerfs 10% to the stat).
A "Perfect" pokemon has 31 IVs on all 6 stats. It's nature is more subjective than you might think (Modest is for a Special Sweeper charizard, but you might want another nature for whatever reason; for instance, a +speed nature is a very good idea since speed is CharY's greatest weakness in higher metagames like Ubers, apart from it's typing weakness to Stealth Rock), so usually when people say "perfect" pokemon, they mean 6 perfect IVs - wether they count natures or not, I've seen some who do and some who don't. The one thing that I'm ignoring is ability (since Mega pokemon have no hidden abilities, whatever their original pokemon have is not relevant, which was my personal case), but that could be considered as well (Example, Greninja's Protean is vastly superior to Torrent most of the time).
But yes, that's the long version of it - the short one is what you've said: highest possible stats and right nature (possibly, if applicable, the right ability as well) = "perfect" pokémon.
I also believe there are fringe cases where "perfect" would consider some IV stats as 0, namelly Speed for Trick Room users (Trick Room reverses speed priority: the slowest pokemon moves first). I'm not sure people still go for Hidden Power manipulation since it's nerf - probably not, 60 power is kinda weak even for a coverage move.
Edit: ooops, sorry about the double-up. I thought I had both messages on the same post.

Well, thanks for the heads up! That certainly clears up a lot of things.
(Trick Room reverses speed priority: the slowest pokemon moves first)
Aye, I've been playing with that. Trevenant with Trick Room is nasty (let's you dodge super-effective attacks with Phantom Force, get a Wood Hammer in before they can respond, etc).

Yeah I added most of you. I never bought any of the games after Ruby and Emerald were released. But after seeing all the pokemon talk I bought myself a 3DS to keep me busy at work (if only I had internet there). And I'm trying to figure out how to breed and all the IV stats and EV training.

These 2 articles contain invaluable knowledge:

If you don't understand some of the terms used (EVs, IVs), look them up on bulbapedia.

I'll breed one for you. And I'm okay with anything you send, it's not like it's a real effort to just breed a new Turtwig :P, what's your FC?
Huh, it'd be handy if we kept a list of everyone's friend codes here...
Edit: Thror, I'll be online for a while, when you're ready post here what pichu you want (gender, specific stats?) and trade inv me in-game.

Yeah I was looking forward to that.
I still have my Ruby and have "stolen" my brothers Platinum, and going to buy Black or White for the last Gen I need.
Question- Can you trade from Platinum to Black/White 2, or do you need to go Platinum->Black/White->Black/White 2?

Interest
I believe you can Poketransfer to Black/White 2.
I'd almost say Black/White is better because if you have AR, you can get a "legit" Victini.
