Hey guys. I was wondering if I couldn't get a good suggestion for a persuasive essay topic...
Here's the prompt: Instead of trying to win the argument by demonstrating that the opposition is wrong, the persuasive essay attempts to locate common ground through which those with opposing views can be invited to modify their views to bring them into line with those of the author. Choose an issue about which there are clear opinions at variance with one another, research the issue to find both support for one position as well as a clear exposition of the opposing arguments, and use what you have found to help modify the views of those who disagree.
My original idea was to persuade members of the music industry to find, nurture, and develop new and innovative acts instead of finding, nurturing, and developing acts that are derivative but that have proven profitability; that in doing this they would not only be able to retain considerable profits, but they would also be promoting the growth of musical expression. Unfortunately, I couldn't really find the sources to support either side of that argument. Now, I'm at a loss. My last two essays for the class were on hydraulic fracturing and intellectual property rights, so I'd like to go for something a little different this time.
Environmentalism does seem like the way to go, but you could broaden the scope to make it easier to find various viewpoints. Try the controversial topic of "man made global warming". Then, portray both sides of the issue, but then, finalize it by providing an agreeable position for both sides without excluding either, a way of being environmentally sound, while being economically profitable.

You know, I was thinking that I'd probably have to revisit an environmental issue. That seems to be the subject where there is the most common ground among the opposing viewpoints within. I'll start looking for some sources, but I'm definitely still open to suggestions. My last essay was on fracking, and being that it dealt heavily with environmental and economic issues, I was hoping to move toward something less centered on the environment or on the economy. That's why my original idea was relating to the music industry: it was something different. Sure, it would still deal with business practices, profits, and such, but it wouldn't have had much to do with heavily affecting or growing the economy of the country. It was more geared toward cultural growth.

Also, how did you know he enjoyed arguing from 2 minutes of looking at his profile?
I was curious as well, until I clicked on Latest Replies - it's pretty darn obvious at that point!

You really could do anything. You could do abortion, give pro and anti, and then a view that kind of excludes an answer, but focuses on health of people, and value of human life in general. You could do gay rights, and give a compromise that focuses just on the value of marriage, which I think both sides believe in. There's a compromise possible in every debate.

You're right, just about anything would work... I'll look around a few debate sites and see what I can find there. Luckily, I've got until Friday to get my annotated bibliography turned in, so there's still plenty of time on this one.

"M'aiq knows much, tells some."
My favourite character in any Elder Scrolls game (a series of which my admiration should be apparent, given my signature) and I make a point out of hearing all available dialogue every time I encounter him in one.
I've been giving some serious thought to having the
entirety of the poem
quoted in said signature put to some sort of textile (printed, perhaps?) and hanging it on a wall in my apartment but I'm not sure how to accomplish the first step.
'Look, little Vehk, and find the face behind the splendor of my bladed carriage, for in it is delivered the unmixed conflict path, perfect in every way. What is its number?'
It is said the number is the number of birds that can nest in an ancient tibrol tree, less three grams of honest work, but Vivec in his later years found a better one and so gave this secret to his people.
'For I have crushed a world with my left hand,' he will say, 'but in my right hand is how it could have won against me. Love is under my will only.'
The ending of the words is ALMSIVI.

True dat.
removed He emailed me.(##RESPBREAK##)8##DELIM##ElhonnaDS##DELIM##I'm sure when he sent that he wasn't expecting it to be posted on a public forum. It would be really unfortunate for him to get a bunch of harassing messages just because his pickup line is corny.
