most guys meassure their success and virility by how many sexual conquers they have. the higher the number, the more "manly" he is. Thus a guy who's had no girlfriends, or just the one, is seen as a lesser guy by his peers.
Do they though?
My experience of life is far from indicative of anything greater but I don't know anyone that thinks like that. Of course this is self-selecting because I likely wouldn't get along with someone with that mentality so I come across those people less and so on. However, isn't your statement here just another stereotype?
Your "most guys" doesn't refer to any guys I know.
I'm not gonna sign up to 9gag to see whatever it was that was linked but is there any reason to take some numbers on a 9gag page seriously in the first place? And if they are from a real study, can we see what the study was looking at and how it was carried out?
Well, I suppose my long-winded point is, aren't you perpetuating the stereotypes even while railing against them?(##RESPBREAK##)16##DELIM##asakawa##DELIM##

I was going to say almost exactly what you said asakawa. I've only every seen stereotypes like that on tv. Men who discard women or men are losers. Women who discard women or men are losers. If you try to make relationships work, then it doesn't matter how many or few relationships you've been in. That how everyone I've ever known has thought, and it's apparently how everyone here thinks.

Outside of some immaturity in school, I hardly recall those views being a genuine outlook on relationships, too.

Sadly, it's slowly becoming as such....at least, for a certain demographic heh.

maybe I should had worded that better.
I meant "most guys I know".
Don't get me wrong, I dont like those sort of people but that's sorta the mentality on my country. Sad? yes.
I was applying simply what I've seen in my life, since these double-standards have A LOT of prevalence in venezuela.
Its one of the reasons why I'm the "odd man out" form the crowd.
I certainly didn't meant to imply that a large percentage of men see women that way (I know I dont. Neither does my dad, or my brother, nor do a lot of guys on this very forum) but so much of the people I know IRL; both at work, and in my family do tend to have these double-standards.............

That's sad but be assured that you're not the odd one out at all even if it feels like it sometimes and even if you have to widen your circle (to include people like us) to be able to see it.

true. Its one of the (MANY) reasons I aim to move out of this country. I just don't feel like I fit in here anymore. The Venezuela of old just plain simply isn't the same venezuela of today.
Large changes, both on the social scale, as well as the economical scale, and political scale have shaped this place into something I don't recognize anymore. Or maybe I had a more "utopian" view of my country, and society, as a kid, and now that I'm an adult I am seeing it for what it really was all along. I dunno. Being locked up in Sabaneta really changed my perspective of what's around me, and cranked up the cynicism in me up to 9000. I'm working on that though, I don't wanna become an old man full of contempt and bitterness. that's not a fun way to live.
Edit: Why do I keep having most of the first posts on each page?

@EluraE- Isn't he fabulous?
@Asakawa- For an example that's not TV- how many memes are there, or facebook posts that get posted to like failbook, where someone will say something dorky, and the response is "The virginity is strong with that one," or "I use this sword/cosplay armor/ geek culture thing to protect my virginity." They're always about guys. "The 40-Year Old Virgin" was fairly popular because they played up every one of those stereotypes.

Satire probably based on yesterday's reaction to Obama openly supporting gay marriage. Although it could be true.
