laihendi, I still don't get why you are so negative to non-classical music.
classical music is music for music's sake.
the music that I like is created for more personal reasons than the art of it, and because of this, it is more relevant and expressive than classical music could ever be.
classical music is much closer to being "just sounds" because it is performed by a large group of people who, despite their own connection, are normalized into, basically, what was written on the paper, and because of this, classical music can be played almost identically by many groups of people, while my music is very personal and is best when played by the original artist or when played by someone who has a genuine personal connection to the piece.
No, classical music is not just sounds, and every orchestra, every conductor, and every musician has his own interpretation of a piece of music. Classical music isn't written for the sake of just making music.
When Tchaikovsky wrote the
Pathétique
, he expressed all his pain, love, hopes, and despair, and he died nine days after it's premier. If you ever took the time to actually listen to it, you would know it was more than just sounds.
Shostakovich was in the city of Leningrad while it was under siege by the Nazi army, when he wrote his Leningrad symphony and dedicated it to the city (during the middle of the siege), and he wasn't just making sounds. He was expressing the atrocities of war.
When Dvorak wrote his Symphony "From the New World", he was displaying the artistic merits of the native Americans and blacks, during a time when European society thought of them as savages incapable of art.
By saying what you did, you've shown that you have absolutely no understanding of what classical music is.

MyTie, can I ask how old your daughter is, and what grade she is in?
shes 10... 4th I think... 5th maybe... I can't remember which one.
The children in the public probably are learning the scales. I was learning them, at least for trumpet, at that time, and your right, she probably doesn't need that. But she could still get something out of it on a new instrument if she wished. All I'm saying is, it's not hurtful.
Alright, bye guys. I gotta go, and probably won't be posting again tonight, but i'll come back and read.
Both my wife and I work very hard to ensure we know what is being taught in public schools and that our kids have comporable or better than education in everything being taught. AFTER we do that we take measures to teach her additional things we feel are useful.
All this on our own! We even tie our own shoes!

The performers do express themselves in classical music, and that's why every performance by every group is different. Listen to Bernstein's interpretation of Shostakovich's Symphony 5. Now listen to Mravinsky's. Now listen to Michael Tilson Thomas's. They're all different.
And great music does not require words in order to express its meaning. Just because one person can not understand what is happening in a piece of music doesn't mean that nothing is happening.
And Laihendi doesn't bash non-classical music. He bashes "music" when all it is is some crackhead screaming into a microphone, or some woman with absolutely no shame strutting around on a music video practically naked, who's only famous for her sex appeal instead of the musical talent that she may or may not possess.

I couldn't agree with you more Laihendi. Bravo!

I might not have to leave, wooohoo. Kind of. I killed randomness though, didn't I?

Oh, thank God.
I was feeling like an old man clinging to old traditions in this place.
Now we just need to get Fathios and Ivokk to come back.
Queggy is easy...we just might have to use a little force.

Fathios was kind of gone already. Ivokk is mine now, there are like 80 pics of him on facebook, it's heaven. Btw, are you alexandre_blablabla?
First: Don't get over excited, it might turn into stalking.
Second: Excuse me, what?

My arguments against the music you enjoy have been consistently well-though out and intelligent, while yours have been "it isn't real music" "its just a crackhead screaming" "they don't have any talent" if you want me to respect your arguments against my personal choice in music, come up with some.
Laihendi never said your music is a bunch of crackheads screaming. If you think he was talking about your music, maybe that says something about what you think of it.
