Last time I checked they were the same as right now (except for resto and balance druids, and a few other subtle changes)

Yeah, I was just messing around with them. Seems like there's still quite a bit of work to be done with them.

Indeed. Keep in mind it's an early build.

Yeah, I guess. I guess I just got my hopes up to see some shiny new "fun" talents for my Enh shammy. :P

Discipline at the minute is sucky for PvE, with those builds. :<

I don't understand why they have talents. You pretty much HAVE to select a certain build to be good at something, and the builds don't allow a lot of customization. I understand Holy/Prot/Ret, but why not just push a button and it automatically just gives you the abilities, and stats, that come with that build? It's like glyphs. Why not just permanantly modify the spells that everyone modifies with glyphs? Why even have them?
If they really want to make it fun, they could give fun talents to the different trees, to change the WAY the charachter is used. For instance, a DISC priest could change all of their spells to be 90% preventative. What I am saying is that all thier spells would become 'shields', instead of heals, except for 10% of each spell. Maybe they could do this at the cost of their group heal spells. Another discipline priest could make all thier spells group heals, except one or two. Another discipline priest could make all their heals heal ONLY one target for 70% more total healing... but maybe they take 30% longer to cast.
That way you drastically change the way each class can be played.
(please don't pick apart the numbers, and mechanics, as if I spent years constructing this idea and balancing formulas. I just posted this to give a general idea)

Actually, that's the point of the new system; well there will still be cookie cutter builds, it hopefully won't be every single player has the same ones.

I think mostly that it comes down to balance. When you have only a few certain ways to build a class into something efficient and effective, it's easier to balance the power of that class against others.
You idea is really cool, don't get me wrong. I would love to see more interesting changes to talent builds and such, but it comes with the territory of being able to make sure that all of those builds are viable in both PvP and PvE (usually one moreso than the other).
I'm hoping that Diablo 3 will offer variation like this. I really like the rune idea, as it actually changes the mechanics of the spell you're using.

Hmm, Blizz seem to be starting with ideas like that though, MyTie, with a Holy Priest's Chakra.

For some reason, it's discussions like these that make me miss WoW. It's not actually playing it, for whatever reason, but the old times of looking around for good talents, trying to make a viable build that wasn't the same as everyone else, coming up with strategies...I almost enjoyed the metagame more than the game.

I think the metagame is actually why I was sucked into D2 for so long. You could make almost any build viable into the beginning of Hell difficulty with it. I can't tell you how many characters I got up to about 50 with an almost random assortment of spells and stats.
Melee Sorcs, Melee Zons, Ranger Pallies, etc.

Actually, as true as this is, I like doing variations and altered specs. Those which deviate from the cookie cutter.
(You could almost say the same thing about ANY OTHER GAME that uses a similar system as well)
