1) We are aware of bike's mats and cost
2) Why make a such long post just to ask "How do I make alot of gold?"
3) Just do some research on this forum and you will see tons of topic about this same damn subject with tons of answers.

I wouldn't even bother. With the way mats are now for the bike people who ride them just look like total suckers to me. You know there are two kinds of bikers out there, true hardcore bikers and rich dumb CEOs wanting to rebel against everything they are. With the price mats are now for the bike guess which one you'll represent. If you insist on getting a suped up wotlk city mount (have you ever seen somebody riding them outside dalaran?) do the smart thing and buy the traveler's tundra mammoth.

Actually... yes, a LOT of times in SW and IF. People love showing how they spend those ~20K G.

I agree on that. Spend that money on a
Traveler's tundra mammoth
and get a free vendor/repair along with your mount.
Very
useful when grinding for gold. MUCH better than a bike, trust me. When I see a bike running around I just smile thinking how much people can spend on it. You wont look "cool" riding a bike. The exact opposite.

If I built my bike, it would become my primary ground mount for oh, a week, then I'd add it to my (currently used) /castrandom macro that randomizes my epic mounts.
As a gnomish mage engineer it'd be cheaper for me to make the bike and, say, teleport back to a city, than it would be to buy the mammoth.
Plus, there's no rep discount for repairs on the mammoth.

No rep-discount is boring, I agree... but overall it's not THAT bad. Porting to any town is faster but you cannot go back to where you was before. That's why having vendors with you is better. Say you're grinding stuff in Sholazar. You will fill your bags in 20 minutes. Pop the Mammoth, sell stuff, start over.
It's expensive anyway but overall I see more benefits from a Mammoth. The bike is just a bike, the Mammo is a vendor/repairer tool too.

I'm a tauren engineer with a bike. Here's a couple of reasons i chose getting my bike over the mammoth.
1) Scrapbots --i'm a miner as well so the mats are free to make them. so at no cost(other than time spent) i can carry a stack of 40 of them with me at all times. so that takes care of my repairs and vendoring. plus with the bots i don't have to go outside the raid/instance to set it up.
2) on my server it seems everyone and his alt has a mammoth now. So riding around on my chopper is still unique. i don't see them very often at all.
3) any place with an elevator or an over hang. On my chopper i don't have to dismount. On my regular mammoth(being a tauren)makes the mammoth huge, and i have to dismount every single time. it's a bit frustrating.
4) it's romantic. when helping my wife quest she just hops in the sidecar and we go. i know i could do the same on the mammoth, but on the mammoth she's in the back staring out the side. at least in the chopper she sits right next to me. It was very romantic when she hoped on, and we drove through stormwind together to get to the stockades for the achievement. after the stockades we drove back outside stormwind, parked the bike, setup a picnic basic, and chilled for a while.
5) it's badass. come on! A guild biker gang together is lot more bad ass than a guild mammoth gang. who needs a bunch of fuzzy elephants stomping around crapping all over the place.
6) less d'baggery. how many times have you asked a guy on his chopper to move off the mail box because you can't get to your mail. my guess is ZERO! how many times have you asked a guy who parked his mammoth on the mailbox to move, and he won't. my guess countless times.
7) Image(but could also work under #5). Also being a prot warrior in naxx25 gear, my toon looks more menacing/intimidating on the chopper than he does sitting on top of a mammoth. At least to me it does
none of these include showing off the money that was spent on it, because, to me, it's not about that.
but on a negative note about money, is that when i am on the chopper, the requests from gold beggars has risen exponentially.

People complain about the cost of Epic Flying skill. I didn't realise how expensive the WoW motorcycles are - overpriced: definately.
I'm currently leveling my chars 1 by 1 and so, have only bothered leveling gathering professions. I did think today that I should start leveling Engineering so I can start building my in-game Hog; but on seeing the price of them I think I'll put it off until all my characters are lvl 80 and have Epic Flying Skill+Cold Weather Flying!
I supposed Blizzard have deliberately set the price so high to generate some trade for the gold sellers.

Engineers can build
Field Repair Bot 110g
which repairs/vendors/sells reagents
Scrapbot Construction Kit
which repairs and vendors
MOLL-E
portable mailbox
so building my bike and having theses items in my bag, i saved a few thousand gold. who needs a mammoth.
