The website that is loading is the third party ad-program site. Wowhead is pretty safe as far as browsing go. Apart from the links occasionally posted by spambots, you won't need to worry much about the actual site.

I've never experienced that. You might check into Avast Antivirus and Spybot Search & Destroy (both available for free online as far as I know). Run those scans on your computer and see if that fixes the problem.
It's (probably) not a spyware issue. I get the same, and I'm very sure I don't have any malware on my laptop right now. It's either an issue with IE7 or something with the site (which makes IE7 crash), I think.

it totally took me to another website that I never visited. This is getting quite annoying.
Was this a popup for Party Poker? Those are advertisements that show up once in a while (supposedly once a day, but it varies). If it was some site that wanted you to download something, it's likely that you have malware on your PC. Try downloading and running
Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
if you don't already have any anti-malware programs.

I wouldn't use those addons unless you want to prevent Wowhead from gaining funds through your browsing.

I come here for information, not to buy things. I would never click on the adds to begin with, therefore my inability to see them doesn't cost wowhead a cent.
Some ads are CPM(Cost per thousand impressions), so Wowhead would actually generate funds if you weren't using such add-ons.

I love Wowhead. But frankly, self-interest governs all, and I really can't be bothered to turn off my adblock just so that the ads running on Wowhead get a few more hits. Don't lay a guilt trip on people for not wanting to deal with potentially unsafe and annoying ads just because it generates revenue for the site - I'm pretty sure its creators are in it for the love of the game and the community. I would suggest you go ahead and use AdBlock, and then just donate to Wowhead directly if you want to show your support.
But don't comprimise your own ideals in doing so! (in my case, I don't wanna see ads for constipation medication or anything else while trying to read about WoW)

I do use NoScript but I've unblocked Wowhead. I don't want to be selfish and block the ads just for my own convenience. The way I see it it's much more beneficial to me that they generate funds to keep this site going.

I really often have a PartyPoker popup in the background while entering Wowhead and usually when that happens my Wowhead logo on the bar changes from the red rocket to some red dice :/

So everything is clear:
Wowhead is currently running a pop-under ad campaign. By design, it is intended to only appear in non-US countries, to only appear once per IP per day, and (when it appears) to attempt to appear in a new window, underneath the Wowhead window. If it's not conforming to those behaviors (ie, if it's appearing 10 times a day, or if it's redirecting your current browser window to a new site) then something is wrong—please notify me and give me as much information as you can so I can yell at the ad people.
If you want to express your thoughts on pop-unders in general (and hear mine, which are not positive), we have
another thread
for it.
Aside from that, Wowhead should be perfectly safe. Obviously, no one should ever surf the internet without some basic security features, but there shouldn't be any problems.
