Im a prot pally. Like Cean said before Holy/Prot pallys have more responsibility then a ret pally. I run my raids as well as being the MT. But I love having ret pallys with me they have benefits to the raid as well as good dps but very gear dependent un like pure dps classes.
Like the others said get sets for all 3 though. I have good sets in all 3 to fill what ever might be needed makes it easier to get into raid if your guilds not running them. There is nothing wrong with any of the spec there all beneficial to the raid and or groups

Simply put you have 3 things to keep in mind...
-The ret aura of a well speced ret paladin will give the raid up to 9% more overall damage! Depending on how much haste the party members have.
-Prot pallies are great tanks and mobs stick to them like glue
-Holy paladins are easily the best single target healers in the game, huge heals with holy light, and the ability to cast flash of light for what seems like forever without going oom. Plus lay on hands makes a great "oh !@#$" button.
The best way to find out what will help the raid (I'm gonna assume you go raiding with your guild) is to ask them what they need. Heals, dps, or tank. I'm sure you will get a very simple answer that way.

Err.. Now towards tanking.
If you guys would give me some good pros and cons for tanking and healing, I would really benefit from your answers.
I'm 100% ret, I stay away from prot questions in fear of saying something stupid. But I'd say it again comes down to what your group needs, a healer or a tank. You can't really compare the two, it's like comparing a brick to a apple. A brick is better for building stuff, but apples are easier to eat.

If you give me something more specific, I can help you on the tanking side. I haven't done much healing since Burning Crusade though.

I play a holy paladin because I enjoy healing. So many times, I've had people tell me to respec to prot or ret because holy paladin's have been getting crap in recent patches since the expansion, but I wouldn't trade my healing for either of the others. Depending on the server, there will most likely be a crazy over abundance of dps, so if you're asking what can benefit the group most, I'd say tank or heals, but I'm not about to pay $15 to play what someone else wants me to play.

So long as you are getting enjoyment you are doing it right :) i would advise when dual specs come you give prot a whirl for a day because tanking is awesome fun also. Anyway glad to see i didn't have to sound like a prick here and people found a nicer way to say whatever you get enjoyment from.
