What Is This Thread?
Blizzard is unveiling a series of changes being made to each class in the incoming 3.1 patch. Consider this the clearing house thread for ALL changes made to Paladins and for discussion of those changes. It also looks like 3.1 will be on the PTRs soon and I hope this thread will continue on to talk about undocumented changes, buffs, nerfs, and what have you which may come to the Paladin class.
This main post will be updated regularly with additional changes, whenever they become available.
Documented Changes to Paladins in 3.1:
* Blessing of Kings – this spell is now a base ability trainable by all paladins.
* Exorcism – this spell now causes damage to all types of enemy targets. However, it always critical strikes undead or demon targets. This change should make sure paladin damage doesn’t drop when going from Naxxramas to later tiers of content.
* Shield of the Templar now causes your Avenger’s Shield and Shield of the Righteousness to silence targets for 3 sec. The old damage bonus of this talent has been folded into Holy Shield, Avenger’s Shield, and Shield of the Righteousness.
* Ardent Defender, Improved Hammer of Justice, One-Handed Weapon Specialization and more have had their ranks reduced.
* Guarded by the Light – no longer reduces the mana cost of shield spells, but now has a 50/100% chance to refresh Divine Plea duration.
* Judgements of the Just – now also reduces the cooldown of Hammer of Justice by 10/20 seconds and increases the duration of the Seal of Justice stun effect by 0.5/1 second.

Other Changes to Paladins:
Mana Regeneration is getting a complete overhaul (
link
). The relevant parts:
Since paladins rely less on Spirit as a mana-regeneration stat, we have to address them in other ways. We don’t want to change Illumination or Replenishment. However, we are going to increase the healing penalty on Divine Plea from 20% to 50%. Divine Plea was originally intended to help Protection and Retribution paladins stay full on mana. It should be a decision for Holy paladins, not something that is automatically used every cooldown.
In addition, we are also changing the way Spiritual Attunement works. In situations with a large amount of outgoing raid damage, as well as in PvP, this passive ability was responsible for more mana regeneration than we would like. We want to keep the necessary benefit it grants to tanking Protection paladins, while making it less powerful for Holy paladins in PvP or raid encounters with a lot of group damage.
The Bottom Line:
My Thoughts:
So far, so good. The nerf to Divine Plea was probably necessary in the end. Holy Paladins were simply never running out of mana, no matter how much they spammed Holy Light. However, I don't think it will have the desired effect Blizzard wants it to. It will still be used pretty regularly. So, I expect it to be changed.
Exorcism represents somewhere around (key word: around) 5% of dps on undead fights. Make no mistake, this is a healthy buff to Ret, and even Prot, DPS.
The changes to the Protection tree single that something else is coming. We'll see how it evolves as more information comes out.

i read the patch notes from a reliable source... as i scrolled down, someone said that it was all fake -_-
wow insider i believe
Yes, there were fake patch notes released by someone. That's why I'm making it a point to link only to the Official Forums at the beginning. Once we get this on PTR, we can start to document changes and discuss them more.
The only thing I'm REALLY hoping for is a change to CS. And no nerfs.

This is not a patch note and its not fake... the only classes they haven't released this info for is Mage, pally, Deathknight, and hunters...
Should come later today.
Incoming DP nerf... i'm calling it now.
Divine Protection? Cause my mind took it otherplaces...
They already nerfed Divine Protection. I think PvE tanks need that considering paladins were the only ones without something awesome like that.

We are also looking at granting rage when the warrior blocks, dodges or parries.
WTF

WTF
I thought this was called Blessing of Sanctuary? And honestly, when are prot warriors rage-starved anymore? Is there something I am missing?
I think it's a good change that Priest PW:S and other shields give rage based on the amount they absorb. But seriously, this seems a bit overboard for warriors.

DP = Divine Plea in my world... sorry if that was a poor time to abbreviate.
I agree with Freddy... i'd much rather have gradual buffs than vast OP and hotfixes... nerfs are demoralizing even if they are needed.
I still remember back in the day where everyone was so demoralized by paladin sucking that I was the only paladin I knew of aside from one or two others.

I hope not, I hope we get something good, but patch updates are like the lottery, not really guaranteed anything.
Yeah pretty much, I do hope if they do nerf, for it not to affect prot.

Updated with Mana Regeneration information. Nerf to Divine Plea and an unspecified nerf to non-prot Spiritual Attunement gains, probably in the form of a talent in Prot increasing amount gained (pure speculation).

I believe they are nerfing ret and holy for SA regen, not prot.
And i called the DP nerf... Although i don't know how much of a nerf that really is for most encounters right now, Holy Light spam will just get less overhealing done I'd imagine and you might have to be a little more careful when you use it depending on the fight.
It will make Patchwerk a little more of a challenge since there are rarely times you can get away with 50% healing hits in there. I see more use of Avenging wrath there and probably a mana pot now... I'd still think it was doable for sure though.
I knew it was coming, because they couldn't just leave paladins
alone.
