WOW is my first real MMO, PC games I lost hours to would have been the Civ series, Command & Conquer and the Football Manager games. I did try WOW for a few months in vanilla, could just never get into it at all, started again just as LK dropped and it kind of ate my life from that point onwards.

well, I still do play single-player games before and after joining wow, so I'm gonna guess that your actual question is what MMORPG were we playing dedicatedly before this one.
I have tried MANY online RPGs but since the vast majority are so lame, I rarely go behond lvl 20 before I ditch them. The only RPG that I played dedicatedly for more than 3 years before joining wow was Lineage II by NCSoft.
It was somewhat fun (despite being a fancy Korean Grindfest) but eventually their developers ruined it behond salvation. It began on Kamael Expansion, I disliked the many changes introduced (specifically, they killing off my class, the Titan, with a nerf so severe that left them crippled)
I kept waiting for them to fix my class, to add something ANYTHING new and useful to the Titans, and after 2 more expansions, I just gave them the middle finger, said my goodbyes to my guildies in there (Some of my best internet friends and near-brothers I met them there, and we still are in contact via MSN) said my goodbyes to my friends, and then I sold my account for a rather fancy ammount on Ebay (back when you could sell games on ebay in my country U_U)
With the money I got from selling my Lineage II account, I was finnaly able to purchase a retail copy of World of Warcraft, along with TBC and WOTLK and FINNALY play on the retail servers (I had played wow since vanilla, but only on private servers because I had no money to buy the original games, since they are too expensive in my country, and I hadn't dedicated myself to wow because lets be honest, Private servers for wow SUCK, at least the private servers of lineage II were just as good as the original)
I've been legit since then, never looked back to lineage II, also never looked back on private servers for wow (after tasting the retail servers, I'd rather quit wow than return to those crappy pieces of poo-poo)

Before WoW, I was playing Runescape and before that I was playing web-browser games. Atm I am having a break from WoW (not sure if coming back) but right now I am waiting for any better game than WoW to come out. Guild Wars 2 is looking good.

Before wow my multiplayer games were the good old fashioned real-life ones: pokemon,
warhammer
, and arkham horror (I was a weird girl growing up)
Like the table top version? <3
As for myself, it was Runescape/Conquer Online, tbh. I played a lot of Age of Empires with my friends as well.

I'm sure a good percent of the community will agree with me when I say...
Diablo 2.
Yes. Im sure many of us would still play this game religiously if the hacking was under control; maybe some updates on the content and gear too. --- I know, I know: it's too old. =(
*impatiently waits for Diablo III*

Ah, my love for games... <3
Anywho, started with Poke'mon way back when the Game Pocket was popular. Then The PS1 with Twisted Metal 4, then the PS2 with Twisted Metal Black and a crap load of FPS. Then I found out about Blizzard games, namely Starcraft. I was hooked like you wouldn't believe (a little less than the stereotypical Korean SC gosu). A few years later, while also still playing plenty of PS2 games, I found out about WC3. It was awesome. It had everything SC had, but more. Waaaaay friggin' more. I simply fell in love. After that there was a few flings with D2 (not real big on it, I will admit that it's fun), but I was aware of WoW. I didn't have the cash, didn't know anyone IRL who played, and really didn't care. So a year later my friend got me into playing trial accounts, roughly in the early summer of '09. I got hooked. I leveled a friggin' hunter to like lvl 16 and farmed 10g, all without using the AH, mail boxes, or trading with people. It was silly. I couldn't stop there, though. Paid for the game, updated to Wrath, leveled an alt to 80 around the time Argent Tourney was played thoroughly, and raided like a baus in ICC. Fun times. I hope to get back to raiding REAL soon, too!
TL;DR
If I had not played WC3 and enjoyed it as deeply as I had, I doubt I would of ever given WoW a second glance.

Diablo 2, Bought the Star Craft Battle chest, it came with a free trial to WoW, my friend talked me into trying it out, and I never looked back.
